Bob Dylan – Another Side of Bob Dylan sealed mono 1964 LP

Bob Dylan - Another Side of Bob Dylan sealed mono 1964 LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed mono pressing of Another Side of Bob Dylan by Bob Dylan.

About this copy: This copy is an original mono pressing and is still sealed in its original plastic inner sleeve.  The record has presumably never been opened or played.

The cover is in Very Good Plus condition, with traces of ring wear at the top and bottom of the front.

While all of Bob Dylan’s mono albums have been recently reissued, the reissues were made from master tapes that are nearly fifty years old. If you want to hear the record as it sounded on the day of release in 1964, you will have a hard time finding a better copy than this one.

Background: Bob Dylan’s fourth album, the 1964 LP Another Side of Bob Dylan, contains some of his best known songs:  All I Really Want to Do, It Ain’t Me, Babe, Chimes of Freedom, and My Back Pages among them.  While failing to chart as highly as his previous two albums, it did sell well at the time of release.  As was common in the 1960s, this LP was released in both mono and stereo, with mono pressings being phased out in early 1968.

A beautiful copy of a record that is very difficult to find in this condition.

Bob Dylan – John Wesley Harding sealed mono U.S. LP

Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding sealed mono 1968 LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed original mono pressing of John Wesley Harding by Bob Dylan.

About this copy: This copy is an original 1968 mono pressing and is still sealed in its original plastic inner sleeve. The record is presumably new and unplayed.

The cover does have some wear at the corners and some ring wear on the front, grading Very Good.

Mono copies of this album have been hard to find for years, and sealed ones rarely come up for sale.  While the mono Bob Dylan albums have been recently reissued, the reissues were made from tapes that are more than forty years old.  If you want to hear this album in mono the way it sounded the day it was first released, this pressing is for you.

Background: Bob Dylan’s 1968 LP John Wesley Harding was his first album since 1966’s Blonde on Blonde and it didn’t disappoint.  While it introduced the world to the track later made famous by Jimi Hendrix, All Along the Watchtower, it also had the distinction of being the last Bob Dylan album to be released in both mono and stereo in the United States.  As such, it was only available in mono for a few short months before being deleted.

Various – (Barbra Streisand, Bobby Vinton, others) set of 24 1963-1966 U.S. colored vinyl Columbia promotional LPs

columbia u.s. promotional colored vinyl LPs

Offered for sale is a set of 24 U.S colored vinyl promotional albums on the Columbia and Epic labels.   We believe this to be a complete set of all colored vinyl promotional LPs issued by these labels during the 1960s.  There are thirteen different titles in the set;  there are multiple copies of some titles due to mono/stereo or vinyl color differences.

Note: While Columbia and sister label Epic released hundreds of colored vinyl singles as promotional items during the 1960s, the labels issued only a handful of colored vinyl albums.  Unlike the singles, which spanned all genres of music, the colored vinyl albums were all in the pop/easy listening categories.  As far as we know, this is a complete set.

About these copies:  The 24 albums in this set are colored vinyl albums issued only as promotional issues by Columbia Records (23 LPs) and Epic Records (1 LP) – albums are blue, red, yellow, green, and purple.

We’ve only included a composite photo here.  If you’d like a full set of images for each title, please contact us and we will provide a download link.

This set came from our personal collection and was amassed over a 20 year period.

Background: During the early to mid-1960s, Columbia and Epic Records pressed a number of titles on colored vinyl for promotional use, hoping that the colored vinyl would attract the attention of radio programmers.

While the labels released hundreds of singles by artists in all genres (Andy Williams, Barbra Streisand, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, Bob Dylan, for example), the label only pressed thirteen albums on colored vinyl, and all were in the pop or easy listening categories.

All were fairly limited in production and not all titles are equally common.  Welcome to Music City U.S.A. is probably the hardest title to find on vinyl, but the stereo (purple) pressing of My Fair Lady and the (red) stereo pressing of Tell Tall Tales by the New Christy Minstrels are also very hard to find.

This is a rare opportunity to obtain them all as a complete set.

The album is noteworthy as being the only LP to include “Dallas” and “Sail the Waterway,” the two tracks from the band’s 1972 non-LP single.  For whatever reason, Donald Fagen has not been eager to see the two songs reissued.

Pink Floyd – The Piper at the Gates of Dawn sealed 1967 U.S. stereo LP

pink floyd the piper at the gates of dawn u.s. stereo lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. stereo pressing of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the first album by Pink Floyd.

Note: While the full title appears on the back cover, the spine and label simply list the title as The Pink Floyd.

About this copy: This copy of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a U.S.  stereo pressing on the Tower label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

Label variation is unknown, but the number “9” appears on the back cover.  This suggests that the album was pressed at Capital Records’ Jacksonville, Illinois pressing plant and the album likely has the second “striped” Tower label.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips or tears.  There are no punch holes in the cover.  There are a couple of breathe holes in the shrink wrap; this is common on 1960s albums pressed by Capitol.

A nice copy of a very rare Pink Floyd LP and the first sealed copy we’ve had for sale in many years.

Background: Released in 1967, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was the first album by Pink Floyd, which then included Syd Barrett on guitar and vocals.

The album reached #6 on the UK album chart and #131 on the U.S. chart.

The album was released in the U.S., UK, and Canada in both stereo and mono in late 1967.  The U.S. version, issued by Tower Records, went out of print in 1970 when Capitol Records shut down their Tower Records subsidiary label.  The album has not been reissued on vinyl in the U.S. since the original release.

The UK album had 11 tracks, but the U.S. version deleted three of them (“Astronomy Domine,” “Flaming,” and “Bike”) and added “See Emily Play,” which had been recently issued as a single.  The track appears in rechanneled stereo on this LP.

UK version has these eleven tracks:

  • Astronomy Domine
  • Lucifer Sam
  • Matilda Mother
  • Flaming
  • Pow R. Toc H.
  • Take Up They Stethoscope and Walk
  • Interstellar Overdrive
  • The Gnome
  • Chapter 24
  • The Scarecrow
  • Bike

The U.S. copy (this one) has these nine tracks:

  • See Emily Play
  • Pow R. Toc H.
  • Take Up They Stethoscope and Walk
  • Lucifer Sam
  • Matilda Mother
  • The Scarecrow
  • The Gnome
  • Chapter 24
  • Interstellar Overdrive

Allmusic.com gave The Piper at the Gates of Dawn a 5 star review:

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn successfully captures both sides of psychedelic experimentation — the pleasures of expanding one’s mind and perception, and an underlying threat of mental disorder and even lunacy; this duality makes Piper all the more compelling in light of Barrett’s subsequent breakdown, and ranks it as one of the best psychedelic albums of all time.

Jimi Hendrix - Hendrix Live at the L.A. Forum u.s. color vinyl lp

Offered for sale is a copy of the double live album Live at the L.A. Forum Jimi Hendrix, pressed on colored vinyl with one blue splatter vinyl disc and one orange splatter vinyl disc.

About this copy: This copy of Hendrix Alive is a 1977 U.S. pressing on the Mushroom Records label of an album that was originally released in 1970 on the Rubber Dubber label.

The cover is a generic white cover, and is M- and is still in the original shrink wrap.  There is a small tear in the wrap near the upper right hand corner.  The original insert is M-.

One disc is blue splatter vinyl with some white and black mixed in; the other disc is yellow, green and orange splatter vinyl.  Both discs have blank white labels.

The discs are M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

These discs used the same stampers as the Ruthless Rhymes pressing, which had JH-1, JH-2, JH-3 and JH-4 in the dead wax.  This pressing has those numbers scratched out and replaced with 2802A, 2802B, 2802C, and 2802D.

A beautiful copy of one of the most sought-after Jimi Hendrix live albums.

Background: Recorded in 1970 and released a number of times on various labels, and under various titles, Live at the L.A. Forum (also known as Hendrix Alive) is a concert recording of Hendrix performing at the Los Angeles Forum on April 25, 1970.

This album was reissued in 1976-1978 by several different labels that were reportedly operated by the same people: Idle Mind Records, Mushroom Records and Ruthless Rhymes records.  We believe the Ruthless Rhymes pressing came first, with the Mushroom pressing following shortly thereafter.

The blue cover has a rubber stamped title and an orange sticker with a pig that says, “Trade Mark of Quality” on the front cover.

The tile is quite well stamped and is fully legible.  The cover is VG+ with dents at all four corners and slight wear along the top left edge.  It’s a nice example with no splits.

The insert is a reproduction.  The original paper inner sleeves are included.  Also included is a replica TMOQ catalog.

This copy has “sideways pig” labels.  These are the labels with the larger pigs that do not say “Made in Holland” on them.

Both discs are VG++ and close to M- with faint scuffs from the paper inner sleeves.  They’re clean discs that have had little play.

A nice copy of a rare Led Zeppelin LP.

Allmusic.com gave Live on Blueberry Hill a 3 star review:

Los Angeles, 1970: Led Zeppelin perform a powerful set of songs (prior to recording Zeppelin III) comprised of heavy blues numbers and a dense onslaught of rock & roll. While the sound clarity is adequate at times, at other moments the sound is faint and simply flat — common flaws in bootleg recordings from this era. Still, the music on Blueberry Hill packs a punch. The set is dominated by three outstanding folk/blues rock medleys: “From the Midnight Sun” (later titled “Immigrant Song”) and “Heartbreaker”; “Communication Breakdown,” “Good Times Bad Times,” “For What It’s Worth” and (not listed) “I Saw Her Standing There,” and Zeppelin’s signature blues rock medley comprised of “Whole Lotta Love,” “Let that Boy Boogie Woogie,” “I’m Movin’ On,” “Think It Over,” and “Lemon Song.” The bass and guitar transitions between the tunes on “Communication Breakdown” medley are funky, and the explosive renditions of Stephen Stills’ “For What It’s Worth” and Lennon/McCartney’s “I Saw Her Standing There” are priceless in their inventive approach.
