Background: The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees is the fifth studio album from the Monkees, and it was certified platinum by the RIAA after reaching #3 on the American charts and selling more than one million copies.
The album yielded three Top 40 singles, with two on the same record. “Valleri” reached #3 on the charts and its B-side, “Tapioca Tundra”, reached #34. In addition to those two, the album also produced a #1 single with “Daydream Believer.”
Allmusic.com gave The Birds, the Bees & the Monkees a 3 star review:
Not one of their better efforts, dominated almost wholly by session musicians (with the occasional songwriting and instrumental contribution by Mike Nesmith) and containing too many sickly sweet Davy Jones-sung numbers. It does have the hits “Daydream Believer” and “Valleri,” as well as Nesmith’s “Tapioca Tundra,” which just inched into the Top 40, but overall the material is pretty weak.
