A nice copy of a terrific album and the first one we’ve had in a while, as most copies have badly worn covers.
Background: Steely Dan/Greatest Hits was one of four Steely Dan albums to be released on colored vinyl in Canada in 1978:
- Can’t Buy a Thrill (yellow vinyl)
- The Royal Scam (yellow vinyl)
- Aja (yellow vinyl and red vinyl)
- Steely Dan/Greatest Hits (yellow vinyl)
Steely Dan’s Greatest Hits was released in 1978, and offered material from their first six albums, as well as the then-new single “Here at the Western World.”
Greatest hits LPs aren’t usually on most people’s radar, as they don’t always sound that great, but this album is an exception.
Greatest Hits was mastered using original tapes, rather than copies of copies, and in the case of Steely Dan, the original master tapes from their 1970s albums were lost or accidentally destroyed in the mid-1980s. As such, Greatest Hits is a pretty nice album to have in your collection, as it does sound terrific.
