Description
Offered for sale is an original 1968 U.S. pressing of Things by HMS Bounty, featuring singer/guitarist Merrell Fankhauser.
About this copy: This copy of Things is a 1968 U.S. pressing on the Shamley label.
The cover is VG+, with moderate edge and corner wear and a small tear on the front where a price sticker was removed.
The record is VG++ and close to M- with a couple of light sleeve scuffs. Clean disc!
A beautiful copy of what just might be our favorite LP of the 1960s.
Background: Merrell Fankhauser has had a long career in surf, rock, and psych, recording a number of albums, but never achieving commercial success.
Things was his third LP, after the surf LP Wipe Out (by the Impacts) and the rare, privately pressed Fapardokly LP. While Things had national distribution, it didn’t have a hit single and sold poorly. The band broke up shortly thereafter and Fankhauser went on to form another band called Mu.
Allmusic.com gave Things a well-deserved 4 1/2 star review:
Fine, tuneful ’60s psychedelia with a pop edge, featuring Fankhauser’s first-rate songwriting and warm vocals. About half of the tunes are excellent, especially the country-rocker “Your Painted Lives,” and the folk-rock ballad “Ice Cube Island,” and “A Visit with Ashiya,” one of the best raga-rock songs ever cut.
