Description

Offered for sale is a copy of the 1972 Japanese CD-4 quadraphonic pressing of the 1970 LP Share the Land by the Guess Who, including the original obi.

Note: This quad LP will play on any stereo turntable, but will have a significantly different mix from the stereo pressing.  The album was released in quadraphonic in the U.S. only as an 8 track tape.

About this copy: This copy of Share the Land is a 1972 pressing on the RCA label of an album that was originally released in 1970 (in stereo only.)

The cover is VG+ with slight fading near the top of the front cover and slight foxing inside the gatefold cover.  This album has a standard gatefold cover, and not the Unipak cover used on the U.S. release.

The obi is M-.  Both the obi and cover have a ¥2300 sticker over the printed original price (probably ¥2000.)

The lyric insert is VG+ with quite a bit of foxing on the back.

The CD-4 quad disc is VG++ with a couple of faint sleeve scuffs, but no significant marks.  There are a few spindle marks on the labels.  It’s a clean disc that has been well cared for.

A nice copy of an album that’s hard to find as a quad pressing.

Background: Released in 1970, Share the Land was the seventh studio album by the Guess Who and the third to be released worldwide.

The album was the band’s first to be recorded without founding member Randy Bachman, who had recently left to form Brave Belt.

The album reached #14 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Share the Land a 3 1/2 star review:

Recorded in the immediate aftermath of lead guitarist Randy Bachman’s departure from the group, Share the Land was a better album than anyone could rightfully have expected, and it was the biggest selling original album in their entire output, appearing in the wake of “American Woman” and lofted into the Top 20 (with a lot of advance orders) with a pair of hits of its own. The music ranges from the catchy, anthem-like title tune to proto-metal excursions, with coherent digressions into blues and country (“Comin’ Down Off the Money Bag”/”Song of the Dog”). Burton Cummings is in excellent voice on the lead vocals, and the other members provide some of the finest harmonies ever heard on a Guess Who album, on “Do You Miss Me Darlin'” and “Three More Days.” The new double lead guitar team of Kurt Winter and Greg Leskiw gave the band a greater range than they’d ever had, moving freely in various rock and blues idioms, and the rhythm section was as solid as ever.
