Description
Offered for sale is a red vinyl Japanese pressing of 4 & 6 by baritone saxophonist Serge Chaloff, including the original obi.
This compilation LP, 4 & 6, includes one side each of tracks from Chaloff’s 1955 LP, Boston Blow-up! and the 1956 LP, Blue Serge.
About this copy: This copy of 4 & 6 is a 1967 Japanese pressing on the Capitol label, pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl.
The cover is VG+, with some corner wear and neatly repaired 3 inch seam split at the top of the cover. The obi is M-.
There is no insert, though we aren’t sure the record was issued with one.
The disc is VG++ on side one, with an inaudible mark through the first two tracks and M- on side two. Clean disc!
A nice copy of a scarce (and terrific!) Jazz LP.
Background: Serge Chaloff died in 1957 at the age of 33, having spent a lot of time as a sideman but having done few recordings as a band leader.
His 1957 LP Blue Serge is rightly regarded as one of the best Jazz albums of all time. 4 & 6, a Japan-only LP, has one side of tracks from Blue Serge and one side of tracks from his previous album, Boston Blow-up!
Tracks on 4 & 6 are:
- A Handful Of Stars
- All The Things You Are
- The Goof And I
- Thanks For The Memory
- Susie’s Blues
- Unison
- Bob The Robin
- Body And Soul
- J.R.
- Diane’s Melody
- Mar-Dros
