Offered for sale is a set of two colored vinyl albums by the Beatles – Japanese pressings of The Beatles 1962-1966 on red vinyl and The Beatles 1967-1970 on blue vinyl.

In 1973, a company in the U.S. illegally created a “best of” box set by the Beatles called The Beatles – Alpha and Omega.  That album was heavily advertised on television and sold well, but it attracted the attention of the Beatles’ record company, Capitol Records.  They sued to have the album removed from the market.

Seeing a good opportunity, Capitol then issued four discs of Beatles hits themselves as two separate albums with the same cover photos:

The Beatles 1962-1966 covered the band’s early years and had a cover with a red border.  The Beatles 1967-1970 covered the band’s later years and had a cover with a blue border.

In 1978, the two albums were released as limited editions on red and blue vinyl, respectively, in a number of countries around the world, including the U.S. and Japan.

In 1982, due to public demand, the Beatles Japanese record company, EMI/Odeon, reissued the two albums, again on red and blue vinyl.

Both are hard to find today, especially complete, so we’re offering both of them together as a set.  The Japanese colored vinyl versions are far harder to find than the American colored vinyl pressings.

About these copies: This is a set of two different Japanese colored vinyl albums by the Beatles, The Beatles 1962-1966 and The Beatles 1967-1970 pressed on red and blue vinyl, respectively.  These are the 1982 pressings, which are identical to the 1978 version except for the different obi.

The Beatles 1962-1966 – A Japanese two-record set pressed on red vinyl and including the original obi.  Cover is VG++, with traces of wear at the corners and some fading along the spine.  The records are M- and appear to have only been played once or twice.

The Japanese insert and both lyric inner sleeves are included.

The Beatles 1967-1970 – A Japanese two-record set pressed on blue vinyl and including the original obi.  Cover is VG++, with traces of wear at the corners.  The records are M- and appear to have only been played once or twice.

The Japanese insert and both lyric inner sleeves are included.

A beautiful set of terrific records and the first time we’ve had both of these at once.
