Offered for sale is an original Canadian mono pressing of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd.
Unlike the U.S. mono LP, this version contains the same 11 tracks as the UK version.
About this copy: This copy of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a 1967 Canadian pressing on the “rainbow” Capitol label.
The cover is VG+ with little wear, but it appears to have some fading. But we’ve never seen another copy so we can’t be sure. There are two small punch holes in the lower left hand corner.
The disc is VG+ with a couple of light scuffs on each side. It looks M- at a casual glance and has been well cared for. The spindle hole has been slightly enlarged.
A nice copy of a very rare Pink Floyd LP and the only Canadian mono copy we’ve ever seen.
Background: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, released in 1967, was the first LP from Pink Floyd and the only album by the band to predominantly feature founding member Syd Barrett.
The album reached #6 on the UK album charts, but only reached #131 on the U.S. charts.
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn successfully captures both sides of psychedelic experimentation — the pleasures of expanding one’s mind and perception, and an underlying threat of mental disorder and even lunacy; this duality makes Piper all the more compelling in light of Barrett’s subsequent breakdown, and ranks it as one of the best psychedelic albums of all time.
