While Japanese Genesis reissues are fairly common, Japanese first pressings of albums prior to A Trick of the Tail are quite rare.

About this copy: This copy of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a 1975 Japanese pressing on the Charisma label.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with faint general wear.  The obi is VG++ with a couple of minor stains on the back, but no tears..  The lyric inserts and custom inner sleeves are VG+ with moderate foxing, but no splits, writing, or tears.

The two discs are M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of a classic Genesis LP that’s quite hard to find as a first pressing.  This is the only copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1974, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was the sixth studio album by Genesis and the last to include Peter Gabriel as a band member.

The album reached #10 on the UK album charts and #41 on the U.S. charts.

Allmusic.com gave The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway a 5 star review:

Given all the overt literary references of Selling England by the Pound, along with their taste for epic suites such as “Supper’s Ready,” it was only a matter of time before Genesis attempted a full-fledged concept album, and 1974’s The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was a massive rock opera: the winding, wielding story of a Puerto Rican hustler name Rael making his way in New York City. …Even if the story is rather hard to piece together, the album is set up in a remarkable fashion, with the first LP being devoted to pop-oriented rock songs and the second being largely devoted to instrumentals. … In every way, it’s a considerable, lasting achievement and it’s little wonder that Peter Gabriel had to leave the band after this record: they had gone as far as they could go together, and could never top this extraordinary album.
