Description
Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition U.S. audiophile pressing of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, issued on the short-lived Nautilus audiophile label.
Note: Most titles released by Nautilus were half speed mastered; this particular title was digitally remastered instead.
About this copy: This copy of Rumours is a 1980 pressing on the Nautilus/Warner Brothers label and pressed on high-quality German Teldec vinyl.
As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.
The loose wrap is intact except for a 4″ (10 cm) split along the top.
There is a sticker attached to the wrap that says “TELDEC Manufactured on Teldec vinyl imported from Germany.” An original price sticker is attached to the wrap (price not shown in photo.)
A beautiful copy of a classic LP and the first sealed copy we’ve had for sale in several years.
Background: Nautilus Recordings was a short-lived California-based audiophile label that was in business from 1976-1983.
During this time, they released about fifty different albums by pop, rock, and jazz artists. Most were half-speed mastered, but there were also a few direct-to-disk recordings and at least one title was digitally remastered.
All of their titles were pressed by KM Records in California using high-quality Teldec vinyl sourced from Germany. While Nautilus titles are not as well known as those appearing at the same time by Mobile Fidelity, they are high quality pressings.
Released in 1977, Rumours was the album that turned Fleetwood Mac into superstars. The album reached #1 in the U.S. and in the UK and has sold more than twenty million copies in the U.S. alone.
Allmusic.com gave Rumours a 5 star review:
Rumours is the kind of album that transcends its origins and reputation, entering the realm of legend — it’s an album that simply exists outside of criticism and outside of its time, even if it thoroughly captures its era. Prior to this LP, Fleetwood Mac were moderately successful, but here they turned into a full-fledged phenomenon, with Rumours becoming the biggest-selling pop album to date. While its chart success was historic, much of the legend surrounding the record is born from the group’s internal turmoil. Unlike most bands, Fleetwood Mac in the mid-’70s were professionally and romantically intertwined, with no less than two couples in the band, but as their professional career took off, the personal side unraveled.
