Description
Offered for sale is an original U.S. mono white label promotional pressing of the 1961 LP Teach Me Tiger by April Stevens.
About this copy: This copy of Teach Me Tiger is an original 1961 white label promotional pressing on the Imperial label.
The cover is VG+, with a bit of general wear and a neatly repaired 4″ seam split on the top right edge.
The white label promo disc is VG+ on side one, with a couple of faint marks and some minor sleeve scuffs. Side two is VG++, with a couple of faint scuffs from the original paper inner sleeve.
This record still has lots of shine and appears to have had very little play. Clean disc!
A nice copy of a surprisingly good LP, though most collectors seem to want it for the cheesecake cover.
Background: Teach Me Tiger was the first solo LP by April Stevens, who later achieved greater fame by singing “Deep Purple” with her brother, Nino Tempo.
Allmusic.com gave Teach Me Tiger a 3 1/2 star review:
Teach Me Tiger! represents some kind of absurd apotheosis in post-Julie London pop seduction — April Stevens’ vocals are so breathy that one can’t help but wonder whether the poor girl spent the recording session hooked up to a respirator machine. Calculated naughtiness that’s ultimately as innocent as a lamb, the album luxuriates in the double entendres and nudge-nudge-wink-wink eroticism of a simpler time.
