Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. limited edition 10″ double LP pressing of Look Sharp! by Joe Jackson, including the pinback button.

Note: The button is often missing, as people would remove them from the cover in record stores.

About this copy: This copy of Look Sharp! is a 1979 U.S. pressing on the A&M label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears or holes. There is a hype sticker on the wrap that says “Special Collector’s Edition 2 10″ Records.”

A nice copy of a terrific LP and the first copy we’ve had in several years.

Background: Released in 1979, Look Sharp! was the first album by Joe Jackson.

The album reached #20 on the U.S. album charts and #40 on the UK chart.

Like most titles in the CBS Japan Mastersound series, this LP has been digitally remastered.

About this copy: This copy of She’s So Unusual is a 1984 pressing on the Epic label.

The cover is M- and is still in the original shrink wrap. There is a tiny dent in the upper right hand corner. The obi is M-. The lyric insert is M-.

The generic Mastersound posterboard inner sleeve is VG+ with moderate foxing.

The generic Mastersound catalog is missing.

The disc is M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl. Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Cyndi Lauper LP. Nice pressing, too.

Background: In the early 1980s, CBS Records in the U.S. and Japan created a limited edition series of high quality audiophile pressings of then-new and older LPs that were pressed on premium vinyl and sold at a premium price. The series did not last long and most titles were quickly discontinued.

In the U.S., most of the titles were half speed mastered. In Japan, most of the titles were digitally remastered pressings.

Released in 1983, She’s So Unusual was the solo debut by Cyndi Lauper.

The album reached #4 on the U.S. charts, selling some 6 million copies.

Pink Floyd – The Wall 1979 Japan 2 LP set with obi and sticker

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of The Wall by Pink Floyd including the original “cap” obi and rare title sticker.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a 1979 pressing on the CBS/Sony label and includes both custom sleeves, the Japanese lyric insert, and the hard to find “cap” obi that folds over the cover.

This copy also has the clear sticker that was originally attached to the shrink wrap when the album was new.

The cover is VG+ with moderate foxing, but no wear. The “cap” obi is VG++ with very slight wear. The lyric insert is M-

Background: Pink Floyd’s 1979 double album The Wall alienated a few fans and made the band a bunch of new ones. Regardless of opinion, the album sold in the millions and is highly regarded by audiophiles as being among the best-sounding albums in the band’s catalog.

The long-out-of-print Japanese pressing is generally regarded as the best, and has been on the Absolute Sound’s recommended list for decades.

The Wall was Roger Waters’ crowning accomplishment in Pink Floyd. It documented the rise and fall of a rock star (named Pink Floyd), based on Waters’ own experiences and the tendencies he’d observed in people around him. By then, the bassist had firm control of the group’s direction, working mostly alongside David Gilmour and bringing in producer Bob Ezrin as an outside collaborator. Drummer Nick Mason was barely involved, while keyboardist Rick Wright seemed to be completely out of the picture. Still, The Wall was a mighty, sprawling affair, featuring 26 songs with vocals: nearly as many as all previous Floyd albums combined.

Offered for sale is an original red vinyl Japanese pressing of First Meetin’ by Lightnin’ Hopkins, featuring Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, and Joe Williams and including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of First Meetin’ is a 1968 Japanese pressing on the World Pacific label of an album that was originally released (in the U.S.) in 1964. The album has been pressed on red “Everclean” vinyl.

The cover is VG+ with no wear, but with moderate foxing on the back. There is a sticker on the spine near the upper left hand corner. The obi is M-; the “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is still attached.

The lyric insert is M-. The envelope style company paper inner sleeve is missing.

The red vinyl disc is M- on side one and VG++ and close to M- on side two. There is a light inaudible scuff through the first track on side two. There are a couple of spindle marks on the labels.

A beautiful copy of a pretty good blues LP that’s hard to find complete.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with trace corner wear. The obi is VG++, with a couple of minor wrinkles. The original price at the top of the obi has been blacked out with a permanent marker. The “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is still attached.

The lyric insert is M-.

The record is M- with a very faint hairline through the last two tracks on side two. It’s so faint we almost missed it. There are a few spindle marks on the labels. Clean disc!

A nice copy of a terrific LP that’s hard to find complete. This copy has the nicest cover we’ve ever seen on this album.

Background: Elton John was Elton John’s second album, but his first to be released in the United States. On the strength of “Take Me to the Pilot,” “Border Song,” and “Your Song,” the album reached #4 on the American charts and #5 in Britain.

In Japan, first pressings of the album were issued on red “Everclean” vinyl, which was created for the purpose of having lower static electricity and thus attracting less dust than regular black vinyl pressings. Only the first issues were pressed on red vinyl; all later pressings were black. Elton John is one of four titles that were released commercially in Japan on red vinyl.

Offered for sale is an original Japanese white label promotional copy of the double compilation album Rock ‘n’ Roll Music by the Beatles, including the original obi, booklet, and poster.

About this copy: This copy of Rock ‘n’ Roll Music is a 1976 Japanese pressing on the Odeon label. This album was released with different mixes in various countries; this version contains the same mixes as the original UK release.

The cover is VG++, with slight edge wear. The obi is M-.

The 24 page lyric booklet is VG++ with a few minor wrinkles. The poster is VG++ with slight wear at the folds, but with no rips, tears, or holes. The original black paper inner sleeves are included.

The two white label promo discs are M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl. Clean discs!

A nice copy of a scarce Beatles LP, as Japanese promotional pressings were quite limited.

Background: Released in 1976, Rock ‘n’ Roll Music was a double compilation album containing more rock-oriented tracks by the Beatles.

The album reached #2 on the U.S. album chart and #11 on the UK chart. The album was the first Beatles LP with worldwide release to contain “I’m Down,” a track originally released as the B-side to the “Help” single.

On toward the mid-’70s, it dawned on the powers-that-were at Capitol/EMI that millions of listeners had come of age since the breakup of the Beatles in 1970 and, thus, had never experienced the group except in a historical context….And so the company decided to try a similar repackaging/re-marketing scheme with the Beatles. And the result was Rock & Roll Music, complete with an accompanying single release of “Got to Get You into My Life.” …Even focusing on their originals, the results were impressive, with the first LP appearance of the Paul McCartney-authored Little Richard homage “I’m Down,” originally a single B-side that had also been their concert closer on the 1965 tour; “Anytime at All”; and the delightful late-era “Birthday,” which was an opposite of sorts to the darker “Helter Skelter” from the same original album. … But Rock & Roll Music did work as a marketing concept, the album rising to number two on the U.S. charts (and kept out of the top spot only by — rather fittingly — Wings at the Speed of Sound).

The result is more vibrant sounding than its predecessor, 1974’s sludgefest Hotter Than Hell, and the songs have more of an obvious pop edge to them. …With Dressed to Kill’s Top 40 showing on the Billboard charts, the stage was now set for Kiss’ big commercial breakthrough with their next release.

The group’s second album was virtually a re-creation of its predecessor, only slightly more sophisticated in its range of songs and the manner of playing them, and the in-house writing had improved, though the latter also became highly derivative. Steppenwolf the Second embraces everything from hard rock to psychedelia to blues, and the band is in excellent form, playing very hard and edgy.
