Sade – Diamond Life 1984 Japan LP with obi and shrink

sade diamond life japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Diamond Life by Sade, including the original obi and with the cover still in the original shrink wrap.

About this copy:  This copy of Diamond Life is a 1984 pressing on the Epic label.  This is the second issue with the green obi and the non-gatefold cover.

The cover is M- and  still has the original shrink wrap.

The obi is M-.  The insert is VG+ with moderate foxing.

The disc is M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the disc.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a terrific LP.

Background: Released in 1984, Diamond Life was the debut album by Sade.

The album reached #2 on the UK chart and #5 in the U.S. and has sold more than then million copies to date.

Allmusic.com gave Diamond Live a 4 1/2 star review:

When Sade released Diamond Life in their native U.K., they were already a kind of sensation. The band had scored hits with their first singles, the smoldering Top Ten ballad “Your Love Is King” and the perseverant soul anthem “When Am I Going to Make a Living,” both of which only faintly resembled anything else on the chart. Magazines such as The Face and Smash Hits had published cover features, intensifying anticipation for the album. Diamond Life not only distanced Sade farther outside any context in which they were placed, whether it was the sulking sophisti-pop fraternity or the increasingly mechanized realm of contemporary R&B, but also fulfilled the promise of the singles that preceded it. Rhythms that sensitively ripple and pulse at their most active, topped with deceptively cool vocals from Sade Adu — all coated with a luster — have a way of obscuring the depth of the material to casual listeners.

Eagles – Hotel California 1976 Japan LP with obi and poster

eagles hotel california japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese first issue of the 1976 LP Hotel California by the Eagles, including the original obi and poster.

About this copy: This copy of Hotel California is a 1976 Japanese pressing on the Asylum label.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with trace corner wear. The obi is M-.

The poster and lyric insert are M-.

The disc is M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice (and great-sounding) pressing of a classic LP.

Background: Hotel California was the fifth album by the Eagles, and their most successful studio album, reaching #4 in the UK and #1 in the U.S., where it has sold some 26 million copies.

Allmusic.com gave Hotel California a 5 star review:

The Eagles took 18 months between their fourth and fifth albums, reportedly spending eight months in the studio recording Hotel California. The album was also their first to be made without Bernie Leadon, who had given the band much of its country flavor, and with rock guitarist Joe Walsh. As a result, the album marks a major leap for the Eagles from their earlier work, as well as a stylistic shift toward mainstream rock. An even more important aspect, however, is the emergence of Don Henley as the band’s dominant voice, both as a singer and a lyricist. …. The result was the Eagles’ biggest-selling regular album release, and one of the most successful rock albums ever.

Glenn Miller Orchestra – In the Miller Mood 1960 Japan LP with obi and cheesecake cover

glenn miller orchestra in the miller mood japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of In the Miller Mood by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of In the Miller Mood is a 1960 Japanese stereo pressing on the Globe label of an album that was originally released in the U.S. in 1959.

The laminated flipback cover is VG+, with some discoloration from age, a tiny tear in the flap at the bottom edge, and a small punch hole in the lower right hand corner.

The obi is VG+ with some discoloration and a very tiny (.5 cm) tear at the bottom edge.  The “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is still attached.

This LP was issued without an insert.

The disc is VG+ with a couple of light inaudible scratches on each side and a few spindle marks on the labels.  It’s a fairly clean disc that has been well cared for.

A nice copy of a record that’s hard to find complete.  It’s the only copy we’ve ever seen, and it’s very unusual to find an album from this era that still has the original obi.

Beatles – White Album sealed white vinyl German DMM 2 LP set

beatles white album german white vinyl dmm lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition white vinyl pressing of the limited edition direct metal mastered German pressing of the The Beatles (aka the White Album) by the Beatles, including all original inserts.

Note: This pressing is regarded by many as the best-sounding version of The White Album ever released on vinyl. (see below)

About this copy: This copy of The White Album is a 1985 German pressing on the Apple label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed.  The four photos of the band members and the poster should be inside.

The wrap is mostly intact; there is a split in the shrink wrap at the mouth that measures about 2″ (5 cm).  This was secured with tape by a previous owner; the tape has yellowed with age.

The cover is M- with no splits; there is a tiny dent in the upper left hand corner.

There is a small hype sticker on the cover that says “Pressung Weiss – Direct Metal DMM Mastering.”

“No. 104970” is faintly embossed on the front cover.

A beautiful copy of a rare and desirable pressing of The White Album.

Background:  The Beatles, aka the “White Album”, was the ninth studio album by the Beatles (by the UK method of counting, anyway.)  Released in late 1968, the album reached #1 on the charts pretty much everywhere and is the largest-selling album in the band’s history, as a sale of a double album counts as two albums sold.

Analog Planet had this to say about this particular pressing of The White Album:

Our next contestant, the 1985 German white vinyl direct-metal-mastered/DMM reissue (1C 172-04 173/74), is one of my favorite ways to listen to the The White Album in stereo. Compared to the 1978 UK white vinyl export, it is more dynamic and has greater clarity and definition. Listening to “Birthday”, the driving bass is phenomenally deep, taut and tuneful. Ambience retrieval is exceptional, with a layered soundstage and a believable presence on even the more difficult to reproduce tracks. The subtle inner details of the guitars on “Back in the USSR” are revealed, and Ringo’s double tracked drum fills are conveyed with powerful energy on “Glass Onion”. The cymbals can sound a little splashy at times, and on some systems this pressing may not be as laid back as you might like. But I believe it’s a mastering that fits the majority of the songs on this recording. Try listening to Lennon’s “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide But Me And My Monkey”. This LP cuts through the confusion, rendering the dueling guitars brilliantly and the ringing hand-bell distinctly and realistically.

Allmusic.com gave The Beatles a 5 star review:

Each song on the sprawling double album The Beatles is an entity to itself, as the band touches on anything and everything it can. This makes for a frustratingly scattershot record or a singularly gripping musical experience, depending on your view, but what makes the so-called White Album interesting is its mess. …None of it sounds like it was meant to share album space together, but somehow The Beatles creates its own style and sound through its mess.

About this copy: This copy of Imagine is a 1971 Japanese pressing on the Apple label, pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl.

The custom inner sleeve is VG+ with moderate foxing, but no splits.  The postcard is VG++ with slight foxing on the back.

The poster is M- with no rips, tears, or holes.

The red vinyl disc is M-  with a few spindle marks on the label, but no marks on the vinyl.  There is slight foxing on the side one label.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a record that’s very hard to find complete.

Background: Imagine, released in 1971, was John Lennon’s second proper solo album, and it was a huge success, reaching #1 on the album charts in at least nine countries, including the UK and the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Imagine a 5 star review:

After the harrowing Plastic Ono Band, John Lennon returned to calmer, more conventional territory with Imagine. While the album had a softer surface, it was only marginally less confessional than its predecessor. … If Imagine doesn’t have the thematic sweep of Plastic Ono Band, it is nevertheless a remarkable collection of songs that Lennon would never be able to better again.

Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1974 Japan 2 LP set with obi and poster

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1973 Japan LP

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John, including two original obi and poster.

Note: The poster was included only in the first pressing of the LP.

About this copy: This copy of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a 1974 pressing on the DJM label.

The cover is M-.  The obi is VG++ with a couple of minor wrinkles on the back.  The second obi, which says “Commemorative Edition,” is M-.

The poster is M- with no rips, tears, or holes.

The 8 page lyric booklet is M-.

The two discs are visually M-, with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of a classic LP and a difficult album to find as a complete first pressing.  This is the nicest copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, originally released in 1973, was a huge success, topping the album charts in both the U.S. and the UK, helped by the success of four singles – “Bennie and the Jets,” “Saturday Night’s All Right for Fighting,” “Candle in the Wind,” and the title cut, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

Allmusic.com gave Goodbye Yellow Brick Road a 4 1/2 star review:

It was designed to be a blockbuster and it was. Prior to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John had hits — his second album, Elton John, went Top 10 in the U.S. and U.K., and he had smash singles in “Crocodile Rock” and “Daniel” — but this 1973 album was a statement of purpose spilling over two LPs, which was all the better to showcase every element of John’s spangled personality. … This touched on everything John did before, and suggested ways he’d move in the near-future, and that sprawl is always messy but usually delightful, a testament to Elton’s ’70s power as a star and a musician.

The album reached #1 on the charts in the U.S. and the UK.

Allmusic.com gave Wish You Were Here a 5 star review:

Pink Floyd followed the commercial breakthrough of Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You Were Here, a loose concept album about and dedicated to their founding member Syd Barrett. The record unfolds gradually, as the jazzy textures of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” reveal its melodic motif, and in its leisurely pace, the album shows itself to be a warmer record than its predecessor. Musically, it’s arguably even more impressive, showcasing the group’s interplay and David Gilmour’s solos in particular. And while it’s short on actual songs, the long, winding soundscapes are constantly enthralling.
