This album was issued without a standard lyric insert.

The disc is VG++ on side one, with a couple of faint scuffs.  Side two is M-.  Both labels have a few spindle marks.

Background: Released in 1971, Nantucket Sleighride was the second studio album by Mountain.

The album reached #16 on the U.S. album charts and #43 in the UK.

Allmusic.com gave Nantucket Sleighride a 3 star review:

Following the success of Climbing! and appearances at Woodstock and other outdoor festivals of the day, Mountain recorded more of the same for Nantucket Sleighride. The title track is a nice mixture of classical-leaning intertwined with moderate rock; both “Don’t Look Around” and “The Animal Trainer and the Toad” continue on the hard rock path so well-worn by this band. Not groundbreaking, but it is well worth listening to.

Peter, Paul & Mary – Album 1700 1967 Japan red vinyl LP with obi and alternate cover

peter paul & mary - album 1700 red vinyl japan lp

Offered for sale is an original red vinyl Japanese pressing of Album 1700 by Peter, Paul & Mary, including the original inner sleeve, lyric insert and obi.

This album features a cover that was unique to the 1967 Japanese first issue.  The 1971 reissue used the U.S. cover art (see photo).

About this copy: This copy of Album 1700 is a 1967 pressing on the gold Warner Brothers label, pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl.

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-; the “hojyuhyo,” or reorder tag, is still attached.  The lyric insert and envelope-style inner sleeve are m-.

The red vinyl disc is M- with one or two ultra-faint sleeve scuffs.  There are no spindle marks on the labels; the record may be unplayed.

A nice copy of a rare (and pretty good) Peter, Paul & Mary LP.

Background: Released in 1967, Album 1700 was the eighth studio album by Peter, Paul & Mary.

The album, which was named after the album’s assigned catalog number, reached #15 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Album 1700 a 2 1/2 star review:

For a 1967 album that managed to yield a number one hit single and an additional Top Ten smash, Album 1700 was pretty out of sync with contemporary trends. This is not exactly a rock record, but the trio was unquestionably making more use of backup musicians and arrangements that owed a bit to pop/rock. (Paul Butterfield, Paul Winter, Canadian rock band the Paupers, and top New York folk-rock session musicians Paul Griffin, Russ Savakus, and Harvey Brooks all play on the record.) …The album’s ace in the hole was the melodic and slightly maudlin “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” an early John Denver composition that would became a number one smash in late 1969, two years after the LP’s release.

Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother Japan LP

Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother Japan LP

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Atom Heart Mother is a 1974 pressing of an album that was originally released in 1970.

The cover is VG++, with slight corner and edge wear.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Pink Floyd LP.  This particular pressing appears to have not sold very well.

Background:  Released in 1970, Atom Heart Mother was the fifth album by Pink Floyd.

The album reached #1 on the UK charts, but peaked at #55 on the U.S. charts, making it what was then the highest-ever charting album in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Atom Heart Mother a 3 star review:

Appearing after the sprawling, unfocused double-album set Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother may boast more focus, even a concept, yet that doesn’t mean it’s more accessible. If anything, this is the most impenetrable album Pink Floyd released while on Harvest, which also makes it one of the most interesting of the era. Still, it may be an acquired taste even for fans, especially since it kicks off with a side-long, 23-minute extended orchestral piece that may not seem to head anywhere, but is often intriguing, more in what it suggests than what it achieves.

Beatles – Live at the Star Club 1977 U.S. red vinyl promotional 2 LP set

Beatles - Live at the Star Club U.S. red vinyl LP

Offered for sale is a U.S. red vinyl promotional copy of the 1977 double live album Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany by the Beatles.

Most promotional copies of this album were pressed on black vinyl, but a small number of them were issued on either red or blue vinyl.

About this copy: This copy of Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany is a 1977 U.S. pressing on the Lingasong label.

The cover is VG+, with slight edge and corner wear.  There is a small bend in the upper left hand corner.

The two red vinyl discs are M- and look unplayed.

A previous owner has blacked out the words “D.J. Copy – Not for Sale” on all four labels.   Perhaps they were concerned that the record police would arrest them.

A nice copy of a record that’s hard to find on red vinyl.

Background:  Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany is a recording of one of the Beatles’ last performances in Hamburg in late 1962, shortly before they became famous.

As Ringo Starr had joined the band the previous August, he was playing during the band’s two week stay in Germany.

The manager for another band, Rory Storm and the Hurricans, brought a tape recorder to one of the performances and recorded both his band and the Beatles, using a tape recorder with a single microphone.

The tapes were largely forgotten for years, but in 1977, the then-owners of the tapes spent $100,000 improving the sound and released the material as a double album on the newly-formed Lingasong label.

The album, while offering poor sound quality, did have some artistic significance and the album’s release also inspired Capitol Records to release the Live at the Hollywood Bowl album later that same year.   That album also sold reasonably well, reaching #111 on the U.S. album charts.

Though most promotional copies of Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany were pressed on black vinyl, a few were pressed on either red or blue vinyl.  Both the blue vinyl and the red vinyl pressings are quite rare.

The album reached #111 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Live at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany a 2 star review:

The historical interest of this album is considerable: The Beatles, on the precipice of fame, playing their last Hamburg club show on December 31, 1962 (contrary to the 1961 date given on some liner notes). The problem, from a latter-day perspective, was that the Beatles didn’t play all that well, and, more importantly, the sound is not up to par in the least, as it was captured on a primitive portable recorder. That said, it’s interesting to hear the Beatles as they were in their club days, with a set list (almost exclusively covers) of early rock & roll tunes, several of which never made their way onto any official Beatle release.

AC/DC – Back in Black original Japan LP with obi

ac/dc - back in black japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Back in Black by AC/DC, including the original obi and lyric insert.

About this copy: This copy of Back in Black is a 1980 pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is VG++ and close to M-, with slight wear at the mouth.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is VG++ and close to M-, with a couple of very faint sleeve scuffs and a few spindle marks.

A nice copy of a terrific LP that’s very hard to find as a Japanese pressing.

Background: Released in 1980, Back in Black is the seventh studio album by AC/DC, and one of the best-selling albums of all time.

This was the first album with Brian Johnson on vocals.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts and has sole more than 25 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Allmusic.com gave Back in Black a 5 star review:

The first sound on Back in Black is the deep, ominous drone of church bells — or “Hell’s Bells,” as it were, opening the album and AC/DC’s next era with a fanfare while ringing a fond farewell to Bon Scott, their late lead singer who partied himself straight to hell. … Brian Johnson’s screech is a dead ringer for Scott’s growl. … Song for song, they deliver not just mammoth riffs but songs that are anthems, from the greasy “Shoot to Thrill” to the pummeling “Back in Black,” which pales only next to “You Shook Me All Night Long,” the greatest one-night-stand anthem in rock history. That tawdry celebration of sex is what made AC/DC different from all other metal bands — there was no sword & sorcery, no darkness, just a rowdy party, and they never held a bigger, better party than they did on Back in Black.

Genesis – Nursery Cryme Japan LP with obi

genesis - nursery cryme japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Nursery Cryme by Genesis, including the original obi and lyric insert.

About this copy: This copy of Nursery Cryme is a 1978 pressing on the Charisma label of an album that was originally issued in 1971.

The cover is M- with trace corner wear.  The obi is G, with numerous wrinkles and several repaired tears.  It is complete, however.

The lyric insert is M-.

The disc is M- and appears to have only been played a couple of times.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a fairly rare Genesis LP.

Background: Released in 1971, Nursery Cryme was the third album by Genesis and the first to include Phil Collins on drums.

The album reached #39 on the UK charts, but did not chart in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Nursery Cryme a 3 1/2 star review:

If Genesis truly established themselves as progressive rockers on Trespass, Nursery Cryme is where their signature persona was unveiled: true English eccentrics, one part Lewis Carroll and one part Syd Barrett, creating a fanciful world that emphasized the band’s instrumental prowess as much as Peter Gabriel’s theatricality…something that does result in genuine masterpieces, as on “The Musical Box” and “The Return of the Giant Hogweed,” two epics that dominate the first side of the album and give it its foundation. If the second side isn’t quite as compelling or quite as structured, it doesn’t quite matter because these are the songs that showed what Genesis could do, and they still stand as pinnacles of what the band could achieve.

About this copy: This copy of The Final Cut is a 1983 pressing on the CBS/Sony label.

The cover is M-  The obi is M-.  The lyric insert is M-.  The custom inner sleeve is M-.

The disc is M- and looks like it has been played no more than once.  Beautiful disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Pink Floyd LP.

Background: Released in 1983, The Final Cut was the twelfth studio album by Pink Floyd.

The album reached #1 on the UK charts and #6 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave The Final Cut a 3 star review:

The Final Cut extends the autobiography of The Wall, concentrating on Roger Waters’ pain when his father died in World War II. Waters spins this off into a treatise on the futility of war, concentrating on the Falkland Islands, setting his blistering condemnations and scathing anger to impossibly subdued music that demands full attention. This is more like a novel than a record, requiring total concentration since shifts in dynamics, orchestration, and instrumentation are used as effect. …And it’s equally clear that Pink Floyd couldn’t have continued in this direction — Waters had no interest in a group setting anymore, as this record, which is hardly a Floyd album in many respects, illustrates. Distinctive, to be sure, but not easy to love and, depending on your view, not even that easy to admire.

About this copy: This copy of A Saucerful of Secrets is a 1974 pressing on the EMI label of an album that was originally issued in 1968.

The cover is M- with trace corner wear.  The obi is VG++ with no tears, but a few minor wrinkles on the back.

The insert is M-.

The disc is M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Pink Floyd LP.  For whatever reason, this particular pressing is elusive.

Background: Released in 1968, A Saucerful of Secrets was the second album by Pink Floyd, the first to include guitarist/singer David Gilmour, and the last to include founder/guitarist/singer Syd Barrett.

The album reached #9 on the UK charts but only reached #158 on the U.S. charts.

Allmusic.com gave A Saucerful of Secrets a 3 1/2 star review:

A transitional album on which the band moved from Syd Barrett’s relatively concise and vivid songs to spacy, ethereal material with lengthy instrumental passages. Barrett’s influence is still felt (he actually did manage to contribute one track, the jovial “Jugband Blues”), and much of the material retains a gentle, fairy-tale ambience.
