Elvis Presley -The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters German 6 LP box set

Elvis Presley -The King Of Rock 'N' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters German LP

Offered for sale is a copy of the 1992 6 LP German box set The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters by Elvis Presley.

This album was not released on vinyl in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters is a 1992 German pressing on the RCA label.

This box set includes:

  • 6 LPs, each in a custom sleeve
  • 3 8″x10″ black and white photos
  • A 48 page photo booklet
  • A certificate of authenticity

The box, booklet, certificate, and photos are M-.  The box has a hype sticker indicating the contents and noting that production was limited to 15,000 copies.

The custom inner sleeves are VG++ with slight wear, but no splits.

The 6 discs are VG+, with slight sleeve scuffs, though the discs are unplayed.

Note: This copy comes from our personal collection.  We bought several copies of this album new from a wholesaler in the UK and all of the copies we received had discs with slight scuffs.  This likely had to do with the paper used for the inner sleeves.  We filed this copy on the shelf when we bought it and have never played it.

A nice copy of a scarce (and very good) Elvis set.

Background: Released in 1992, The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters  was a compilation of every song Elvis Presley recorded during the 1950s.

Released only on compact disc and cassette in the U.S., the album reached #159 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters a 5 star review:

Most of this is dynamic, thrilling music that presents Elvis at his very best. Historically, this is surely essential, but what makes the box so great is that it’s so entertaining, providing ample proof that Elvis’ music is indeed every bit as influential and timeless as the history books state.

Queens of the Stone Age – Rated X 2000 EU LP

Queens of the Stone Age - rated x u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a limited edition EU pressing of X by the Queens of the Stone Age.

This album is known by several titles, including X and Rated X.  The title on the spine is Feel Good Hit of the Summer.

About this copy: This copy of X is a 2000 pressing on the Interscope Records label.

The cover is VG++ with no wear, but with two minor corner bends.  There is a hype sticker on the cover that says

The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a pretty good LP.

Background: Released in 2000, R, Rated R, X, Rated X, or Feel Good Hit of the Summer was the second album by the Queens of the Stone Age.

The album reached #54 on the UK album chart but did not chart in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Rated R a 5 star review:

The second Queens of the Stone Age album, Rated R (as in the movie rating; its title was changed from II at the last minute before release), makes its stoner rock affiliations clear right from the opening track. The lyrics of “Feel Good Hit of the Summer” consist entirely of a one-line list of recreational drugs that Josh Homme rattles off over and over, a gag that gets pretty tiresome by the end of the song (and certainly doesn’t need the reprise that follows “In the Fade”). Fortunately, the rest of the material is up to snuff. R is mellower, trippier, and more arranged than its predecessor, making its point through warm fuzz-guitar tones, ethereal harmonies, vibraphones, horns, and even the odd steel drum. That might alienate listeners who have come to expect a crunchier guitar attack, but even though it’s not really aggro, R is still far heavier than the garage punk and grunge that inform much of the record.

About this copy: This copy of The Monkees is a 1980 Japanese pressing on the Arista label of an album that was originally released in 1966.

The cover is VG, with quite a bit of edge and corner wear.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a terrific album.

Background: The Monkees, released in 1966, was the first of several best-selling albums by the made-for-TV band.  Backed by the Wrecking Crew, the band took the album to #1 on the U.S. charts, helped by the hit single “Last Train to Clarksville” as well as the theme song from the TV show.

Allmusic.com gave The Monkees a 4 star review:

The Monkees’ first album was a huge success, following on the number one single “Last Train to Clarksville.” The Monkees spent 78 weeks on the Billboard chart including an astounding 13 weeks at number one. The record wasn’t only a commercial juggernaut, it also stands as one of the great debuts of all time, and while the record and the group have faced criticism from rock purists through the ages, it stands the test of time perfectly well, sounding as alive and as much fun 40 years later.

Monkees – More of the Monkees 1980 Japan LP with obi

Monkees - More of the Monkees Japan LP

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of More of the Monkees by the Monkees, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of More of the Monkees is a 1980 Japanese pressing on the Arista label of an album that was originally released in 1967.

This pressing has a different back cover from the U.S. release.

The cover is M- and is still in the shrink.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- and looks like it may have been played once. Clean disc!

A nice copy of a pretty good album.

Background: Released in 1967, More of the Monkees was the second album by the Monkees.  The album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts, helped by the single “I’m a Believer.”

Allmusic.com gave More of the Monkees a 4 star review:

The Monkees second album More of the Monkees lived up to its title. It was more successful commercially, spending an amazing 70 weeks on the Billboard charts and ultimately becoming the 12th biggest selling album of all time. It had more producers and writers involved since big-shots like Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Jeff Barry and Neil Sedaka, as well as up-and-comers like Neil Diamond all grabbed for a piece of the pie after Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, the men who made the debut album such a smash, were elbowed out by music supervisor Don Kirshner. …The tracks on More of the Monkees (with the exception of the aforementioned “Your Auntie Grizelda ” and the sickly sweet “The Day We Fell in Love,” which regrettably introduces the smarmy side of Davy Jones) stand up to the work of any other pop band operating in 1967. Real or fabricated, the Monkees rate with any pop band of their era and More of the Monkees solidifies that position.

Monkees – Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. 1967 Japan LP with obi and alternate cover

Monkees - Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. 1967 Japan LP

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones Ltd. by the Monkees, including the original obi and a psychedelic alternate gatefold cover that was used only for this release.

About this copy: This copy of Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones Ltd. is a 1967 Japanese pressing on the Victor label.

The gatefold cover is M-.  The obi is M-.

This LP was issued with a photo/lyric booklet but not an insert.

The disc is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a terrific Monkees LP and an LP that is very hard to find as a clean, complete, original pressing.

Background: Released in 1967, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones Ltd. was the fourth album by the Monkees, and the fourth consecutive album by the band to reach #1 on the U.S. charts.

Allmusic.com gave Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones Ltd. a 4 1/2 star review:

After wresting control of the Monkees from Don Kirschner and recording the very good Headquarters album as a mostly self-contained unit, the bandmembers returned to using studio musicians to augment their sound as well as looking outside the group for the majority of the songs on their fourth album, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. Whatever the reason for the decision, the resulting album is one of their best. … To think that both this album and Headquarters came out the same year! Most bands would be lucky to have two albums this good come out their entire career. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. is a must-have for any fan of smart, fun, and exciting ’60s pop. It doesn’t get much better than this.

The album reached #1 on the UK charts and #2 on the U.S. charts.

Allmusic.com gave Every Good Boy Deserves Favour a 4 1/2 star review:

The best-realized of their classic albums, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour was also the last of the group’s albums for almost a decade to be done under reasonably happy and satisfying circumstances — for the last time with this lineup, they went into the studio with a reasonably full song bag and a lot of ambition and brought both as far as time would allow, across close to four months (interrupted by a tour of the United States right in the middle). …Sad to say, the group would never be this happy with an album again — at least not for a lot of years — or with their commitment to being a group, though they would leave one more highly worthwhile album before taking a hiatus for most of the rest of the 1970s.

Porcupine Tree – Stupid Dream 2006 U.S. 180 gram 2 LP set

Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream U.S. LP

Offered for sale is an original U.S. black vinyl 180 gram pressing of the double album Stupid Dream by Porcupine Tree.

About this copy: This copy of Stupid Dream is a 2006 U.S. pressing on the Gates of Dawn label.

The cover is M- with a small corner dent.  The two 180 gram black vinyl discs are M- and look unplayed.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of one of Porcupine Tree’s better albums.

Background: Released in 1999, but not on vinyl until 2006, Stupid Dream was the fifth album by Porcupine Tree.

The album did not chart.

Allmusic.com gave Stupid Dream a 4 1/2 star review:

Porcupine Tree’s first album for K-Scope/Snapper starts out with a definite bang — “Even Less,” with some of the quartet’s biggest, blasting rock epic music yet, yet also shot through with the gentler, acoustic side that makes Porcupine Tree so intimate and lovely. The net result easily calls Yes to mind, but Steven Wilson’s not so high-pitched as Jon Anderson and Richard Barbieri completely avoids Rick Wakeman’s extreme idiocies — prog that knows when less is more. With that as a fine signal for the album as a whole, Stupid Dream takes it from there — Wilson as a songwriter and singer both sounds recharged and more ambitious, while the group collectively pours it on.

Porcupine Tree – Lightbulb Sun 2008 Dutch 180 gram 2 LP set

Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun dutch lp

Offered for sale is an original 2008 180 gram Dutch pressing of the double album Lightbulb Sun by Porcupine Tree.

About this copy: This copy of Lightbulb Sun is a 2008 Dutch pressing on the Tonefloat label.

The cover is M-.  The custom inner sleeves are M-.  The two black vinyl 180 gram LPs are M- and look unplayed.  Clean discs!

A beautiful copy of a terrific album.

Background: Lightbulb Sun, released in 2000, was the fifth studio album by Porcupine Tree.  The album reached #161 on the UK charts, but did not chart in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Lightbulb Sun a 4 star review:

Some older fans looked askance at Lightbulb Sun, feeling it was verging on overt commercialism (and admittedly, the near power ballad solo on “Where We Would Be” is a bit odd!). Then again, given Wilson’s own explorations of avant-garde pop with No-Man, who’s to say why a slightly more radio-friendly stance can’t work? “Shesmovedon” may have been a single, but there’s no question who wrote and performed it — the elegant cascade of backing vocals on the chorus shows that much. Certainly Wilson hasn’t turned into Max Martin or anything — it’s still very much Porcupine Tree, in its lyrical turns of phrase and general sense of exploration.
