Gilberto ‎– Getz / Gilberto mobile fidelity lp

Offered for sale is a copy of the numbered, limited edition U.S. pressing of Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto, relesed by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

About this copy: This copy of Getz/Gilberto is a 1994 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1963.

This copy is number 411 of an unknown number of copies.

The cover is M-.  The posterboard stiffener is M-.  The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a Jazz/Bossa Nova classic.

Background: Released in 1964, Getz/Gilberto caught lightning in a bottle and caught America at just the right moment to take advantage of the Bossa Nova craze that lasted for the next three years or so.

Helped by the pop hit, “The Girl from Ipanema,” the album sold more than two million copies and became one of the biggest-selling Jazz albums of all time.

Allmusic.com gave Getz/Gilberto a 5 star review:

One of the biggest-selling jazz albums of all time, not to mention bossa nova’s finest moment, Getz/Gilberto trumped Jazz Samba by bringing two of bossa nova’s greatest innovators — guitarist/singer João Gilberto and composer/pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim — to New York to record with Stan Getz. The results were magic. … This music has nearly universal appeal; it’s one of those rare jazz records about which the purist elite and the buying public are in total agreement. Beyond essential.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Tarkus Mobile Fidelity half speed mastered LP

emerson lake & palmer tarkus mobile fidelity lp

Offered for sale is a numbered, limited edition, half speed mastered pressing of Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs and pressed on 200 gram vinyl.

About this copy: This copy of Tarkus is a 1994 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1971.

The cover is M-.  The posterboard stiffener is M-.

The 200 gram disc is M- and looks unplayed, with no marks of any kind on either the labels or the vinyl.  Beautiful disc!

A gorgeous copy of a terrific album.

Background: Released in 1971, Tarkus was the second studio album by Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

The album reached #1 on the UK charts and #9 in the U.S., where it was certified gold by the RIAA.

Allmusic.com gave Tarkus a 3 1/2 star review:

Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s 1970 eponymous LP was only a rehearsal. It hit hard because of the novelty of the act (allegedly the first supergroup in rock history), but felt more like a collection of individual efforts and ideas than a collective work. All doubts were dissipated by the release of Tarkus in 1971. …Tarkus makes a very solid album, especially to the ears of prog rock fans — no Greg Lake acoustic ballads, no lengthy jazz interludes. More accomplished than the trio’s first album, but not quite as polished as Brain Salad Surgery, Tarkus is nevertheless a must-have.

About this copy: This copy of Pictures at an Exhibition is a 1980 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1971.

While technically a U.S. release, the disc was pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

The cover is VG+, with light edge and corner wear.  The posterboard stiffener is included.

The half speed mastered disc is VG++ and close to M- with a couple of light hairlines on each side.  It’s a very clean disc that has had little play.

Background: Released in late 1971, Pictures at an Exhibition was Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s first live album, and their only live album to consist entirely of material that was not found on their studio albums.

The album reached #3 on the UK charts and #10 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Pictures at an Exhibition a 3 1/2 star review:

One of the seminal documents of the progressive rock era, a record that made its way into the collections of millions of high-school kids who never heard of Modest Mussorgsky and knew nothing of Russia’s Nationalist “Five.” It does some violence to Mussorgsky, but Pictures at an Exhibition is also the most energetic and well-realized live release in Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s catalog, and it makes a fairly compelling case for adapting classical pieces in this way.

The album reached #8 on the U.S. album charts and was certified platinum by the RIAA>

Allmusic.com gave Takin’ It to the Streets a 4 1/2 star review:

The group’s first album with Michael McDonald marked a shift to a more mellow and self-consciously soulful sound for the Doobies, not all that different from what happened to Steely Dan — whence McDonald (and Jeff Baxter) had come — between, say, Can’t Buy a Thrill and Pretzel Logic….with gorgeous playing and singing all around.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Cosmo’s Factory 1980 U.S. Mobile Fidelity LP

creedence clearwater revival cosmo's factory mobile fidelity lp

Offered for sale is a limited edition half speed mastered U.S. pressing of Cosmo’s Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival, issued by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

About this copy: This copy of Cosmo’s Factory is a 1980 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1970.

While technically a U.S. release, the disc was pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

The cover is VG+ with moderate edge and corner wear.  The posterboard stiffener is M-.

The disc is M-, with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background: Released in 1970, Cosmo’s Factory was the fifth album by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The album #1 on both the U.S. and UK album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Cosmo’s Factory a 5 star review:

When it came time to assemble a full album, Fogerty had only one original left, the claustrophobic, paranoid rocker “Ramble Tamble.” Unlike some extended instrumentals, this was dramatic and had a direction — a distinction made clear by the meandering jam that brings CCR’s version of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” to 11 minutes. Even if it wanders, their take on the Marvin Gaye classic isn’t unpleasant, and their faithful, exuberant takes on the Sun classics “Ooby Dooby” and “My Baby Left Me” are joyous tributes. Still, the heart of the album lays in those six fantastic songs released on singles. “Up Around the Bend” is a searing rocker, one of their best, balanced by the menacing murkiness of “Run Through the Jungle.” “Who’ll Stop the Rain”‘s poignant melody and melancholy undertow has a counterpart in Fogerty’s dope song, “Lookin’ out My Back Door,” a charming, bright shuffle, filled with dancing animals and domestic bliss – he had never been as sweet and silly as he is here. On “Long as I Can See the Light,” the record’s final song, he again finds solace in home, anchored by a soulful, laid-back groove. It hits a comforting, elegiac note, the perfect way to draw Cosmo’s Factory — an album made during stress and chaos, filled with raging rockers, covers, and intense jams — to a close.

Every title ever issued by Mobile Fidelity is collectible in its own right; their pressings from 1978 through 1989 were pressed in Japan by JVC on their proprietary Super Vinyl, an exceptionally resilient, dead-quiet vinyl compound, with later issues pressed in the U.S. by RTI on 200 gram vinyl. These records were mastered at half speed; both the tape and the cutting lathe were run at half the normal speed, allowing the cutting head to cut a more accurate groove in the acetate. The finished product featured dead-quiet vinyl, with improved dynamics, better imaging, and tighter bass.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Deja Vu 1983 U.S. Mobile Fidelity LP

Offered for sale is a limited edition half speed mastered U.S. pressing of Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, issued by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

About this copy: This copy of Deja Vu is a 1983 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally issued in 1970.

While technically a U.S. release, the disc was pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background: Deja Vu is the second album by Crosby, Stills and Nash, with the addition of Stills’ former bandmate in Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young. The album reportedly took 800 hours of studio time to record, and became one of the most anticipated releases of all time.

Allmusic.com gave Deja Vu a rare 5 star review:

One of the most hotly awaited second albums in history — right up there with those by the Beatles and the Band — Déjà Vu lived up to its expectations and rose to number one on the charts. …. Déjà Vu worked as an album, a product of four potent musical talents who were all ascending to the top of their game coupled with some very skilled production, engineering, and editing. There were also some obvious virtues in evidence — the addition of Neil Young to the Crosby, Stills & Nash lineup added to the level of virtuosity, with Young and Stephen Stills rising to new levels of complexity and volume on their guitars…. All of this variety made Déjà Vu a rich musical banquet for the most serious and personal listeners, while mass audiences reveled in the glorious harmonies and the thundering electric guitars, which were presented in even more dramatic and expansive fashion on the tour that followed.

Beatles – Abbey Road sealed 1978 U.S. half speed mastered Mobile Fidelity LP

beatles - abbey road u.s. mobile fidelity lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed half speed mastered limited edition U.S. pressing of Abbey Road by the Beatles, released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

About this copy: This copy of Abbey Road is a 1978 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1969.

While the album is technically a U.S. release, the disc was pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The loose wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  There is a hype sticker on the wrap that says “Half Speed Mastered Super High Fidelity Limited Edition.”

A beautiful copy of a scarce Beatles LP.

Background: Released in 1969, Abbey Road was the final studio album recorded by the Beatles.  The album reached #1 on both the U.S. and UK album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Abbey Road a 5 star review:

In many ways, Abbey Road stands apart from the rest of the Beatles’ catalog, an album that gains considerable strength from its lush, enveloping production — a recording so luxuriant, it glosses over aesthetic differences between the group’s main three songwriters and ties together a series of disconnected unfinished songs into a complete suite. Where Sgt. Pepper pioneered such mind-bending aural techniques, Abbey Road truly seized the possibilities of the studio and, in doing so, pointed the way forward to the album rock era of the 1970s. Many of the studio tricks arrive during that brilliant suite of songs, a sequence that lasts nearly a full side of an album. … While a single song or segment can be dazzling, having a succession of marvelous, occasionally intertwined moments is not only a marvel but indeed a summation of everything that made the Beatles great.

Ry Cooder – Jazz 1984 U.S. Mobile Fidelity half speed mastered LP

ry cooder jazz u.s. mobile fidelity lp

Offered for sale is a copy of the limited edition half speed mastered U.S. pressing of Jazz by Ry Cooder, issued by Mobile Fidelity Sound labs.

About this copy: This copy of Jazz is a 1984 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1978.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with very slight corner wear.  The posterboard stiffener is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of one of the rarest Mobile Fidelity titles.  Great recording, too.

Background: Released in 1978, Jazz was the seventh album by Ry Cooder.

The album did not chart in either the U.S. or the UK.

Allmusic.com gave Jazz a 3 star review:

Beginning with his self-titled debut in 1970, Ry Cooder’s records seemed to be as much history lesson as they were entertainment. Not because Cooder was trying to club you over the head with this stuff; he simply gravitated to great songs, no matter what the era or genre. Released in 1978, Jazz seems to be his first conscious attempt at a concept album, in the historical sense. Here he pays homage to some of the early tunes and masters of jazz, ranging from the late 1800s through the “coon songs” of the early part of the next century, to the ragtime and “Spanish” music of Jelly Roll Morton, and the sophistication of cornetist Bix Beiderbecke. …From the informative liner notes by Ry Cooder himself to the brilliant compositions, Jazz is, at the very least, educational. But, a little time spent with this music and you’ll see why it was and continues to be relevant, as well as beloved.

The half speed mastered disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of one of the harder Mobile Fidelity albums to find.  Great recording, too!

Background: Released in 1962, Nat King Cole Sings / George Shearing Plays was a collaboration between vocalist Nat “King” Cole and British pianist George Shearing.

The album reached #27 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave Nat King Cole Sings / George Shearing Plays a 4 star review:

Although it would have been interesting to hear Nat King Cole play some piano and perhaps accompany a vocal by George Shearing instead of exclusively the other way around, this session was a big success. Cole is in prime form on such tunes as “September Song,” “Pick Yourself Up,” and “Serenata.” Shearing’s accompaniment is tasteful and lightly swinging, and the string arrangements help to accentuate the romantic moods.

Chicago – Chicago Transit Authority 1984 U.S. Mobile Fidelity 2 LP set

chicago transit authority mobile fidelity lp

Offered for sale is a copy of the limited edition U.S. half speed mastered pressing of the double album Chicago Transit Authority by Chicago, issued by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

About this copy: This copy of Chicago Transit Authority is a 1984 U.S.  pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1969.

While technically a U.S. release, the discs were pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

The cover is M-with trace corner wear.  The posterboard inserts are included.

The two discs are M- and look unplayed.  Clean discs!

A nice copy of a terrific (and great-sounding) album.

Background: Released in 1969, Chicago Transit Authority was the first album by Chicago.

The album reached #17 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Chicago Transit Authority a 4 star review:

Few debut albums can boast as consistently solid an effort as the self-titled Chicago Transit Authority (1969). Even fewer can claim to have enough material to fill out a double-disc affair. … In April of 1969, the dozen sides of Chicago Transit Authority unleashed a formidable and ultimately American musical experience. This included an unheralded synthesis of electric guitar wailin’ rock & roll to more deeply rooted jazz influences and arrangements. This approach economized the finest of what the band had to offer — actually two highly stylized units that coexisted with remarkable singularity.
