A nice copy of a scarce Metallica EP and the first copy we’ve had for sale in about five years.
Background: Released in 1986 in a limited edition of 3000 copies, Creeping Death contains the following tracks:
- Creeping Death
- Am I Evil?
Due to its gold appearance, this EP is usually described by sellers as being pressed on “gold vinyl,” but it’s actually a picture disc, manufactured with clear vinyl laminated over a gold insert.
For those still wondering why Metallica’s 1987 Garage Days EP was dubbed “re-revisited,” here’s your answer: Along with “Creeping Death,” the classic track from their second album Ride the Lightning, this European release features Metallica’s first attempts at covering their new wave of British heavy metal heroes. Diamond Head’s “Am I Evil?” is up first, and clearly displays that band’s huge influence on Metallica’s compositional style and signature sound. Up next, an astounding version of Blitzkrieg’s namesake tune is so superior to the original (thanks in large part to the incredible musicianship) that one can truly appreciate Metallica’s position as a generation divide.
