Background: Chris Connor Sings Lullabys of Birdland was the fourth album by Chris Connor to be released on the Bethlehem, though it was released after she had moved to record for Atlantic.
The 1957 LP consisted mostly of songs she recorded in 1953-1954.
This (album) draws its music from singer Chris Connor’s first three sessions as a leader. Connor, who was 26 at this time, is in top form in all of the different settings and displays a wider range than one might expect. Highlights include “Lullaby of Birdland,” “Spring Is Here,” “Ask Me,” “A Cottage for Sale” and a rare vocal version of “Goodbye.”
