The album reached #3 on the UK charts and #70 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Selling England by the Pound a rare 5 star review:

Genesis proved that they could rock on Foxtrot but on its follow-up Selling England by the Pound they didn’t follow this route, they returned to the English eccentricity of their first records, which wasn’t so much a retreat as a consolidation of powers. For even if this eight-track album has no one song that hits as hard as “Watcher of the Skies,” Genesis hasn’t sacrificed the newfound immediacy of Foxtrot: they’ve married it to their eccentricity, finding ways to infuse it into the delicate whimsy that’s been their calling card since the beginning. …It’s this delicate balance and how the album showcases the band’s narrative force on a small scale as well as large that makes this their arguable high-water mark.

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background:  Released in 1970, T. Rex was the fourth album by the band of the same name, who had previously called themselves Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The album reached #7 on the UK album chart and #188 on the U.S. chart.

Allmusic.com gave T. Rex a 4 star review:

Tyrannosaurus Rex’s transformation from oracles of U.K. hippie culture to boogie-friendly rock stars began with the album A Beard of Stars, released in early 1970 when the band picked up electric instruments, and by the time the year was out, Marc Bolan had pared their name down to the more user-friendly T. Rex and dropped their first album with the new moniker. …If Bolan was reaching for the big time with T. Rex, he also sounds like he was letting out the rock star that had always lurked within him, and there isn’t a moment here that doesn’t sound like he’s singing from his heart and soul. T. Rex is the quiet before the storm of Electric Warrior, and it retains a loopy energy and easy charm that makes it one of Bolan’s watershed works.

The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic LP that is almost never found complete.

Background: Released in 1975, Wish You Were Here was the ninth studio album by Pink Floyd.

The album reached #1 on the charts in the U.S. and the UK.

Allmusic.com gave Wish You Were Here a 5 star review:

Pink Floyd followed the commercial breakthrough of Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You Were Here, a loose concept album about and dedicated to their founding member Syd Barrett. The record unfolds gradually, as the jazzy textures of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” reveal its melodic motif, and in its leisurely pace, the album shows itself to be a warmer record than its predecessor. Musically, it’s arguably even more impressive, showcasing the group’s interplay and David Gilmour’s solos in particular. And while it’s short on actual songs, the long, winding soundscapes are constantly enthralling.

Anita Baker – Giving You the Best That I Got 1988 sealed U.S. LP

Anita Baker - Giving You the Best that I got u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. copy of Giving You the Best That I Got by Anita Baker.

About this copy:  This copy of Giving You the Best That I Got is a 1988 U.S. pressing on the Elektra label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact, with no rips, tears, or holes.

There is a hype sticker that lists three of the songs that appear on the album.  There is an original price sticker (not shown) on the wrap.

A nice copy of a terrific album that’s fairly hard to find on vinyl, as most copies were sold on compact disc when the album was new.

Background: Giving You the Best That I Got was Anita Baker’s third album, and the album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts, as did the title track, which was the album’s lead single.

The album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 3 million copies.

Allmusic.com gave Giving You the Best That I Got a 4 star review:

The sizeable following that Anita Baker acquired with Rapture proved quite receptive to the only slightly less appealing Giving You the Best That I Got — an album that’s quite similar to its predecessors. Though not quite on a par with The Songstress or Rapture, Best is far superior to most of 1988’s uninspired R&B releases. I…Much of Baker’s music has contained jazz overtones, but on the Brazilian-influenced, slightly bossa nova-ish “Good Enough,” Sarah Vaughan’s influence becomes even more apparent — and indicates that she is making a tremendous mistake by not recording outright jazz.

The disc is VG+ with a light sleeve scuff on side one and a small inaudible mark on side two (see photo.)  There are a few spindle marks on the labels.  It’s a clean disc that has been well cared for.

A nice copy of a classic LP and an album that is hard to find complete.

Background:  Released in 1972, Seventh Sojourn was the eighth album by the Moody Blues and the last of their so-called “Classic Seven” LPs.

The album reached #5 on the UK charts and #1 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Seventh Sojourn a 3 1/2 star review:

Despite the presence of a pair of ballads — one of them (“New Horizons”) by Justin Hayward the latter’s most romantic number since “Nights in White Satin” — Seventh Sojourn was notable at the time of its release for showing the hardest-rocking sound this band had ever produced on record. It’s all relative, of course, compared to their prior work, but the music is comparatively stripped down here, and on a lot of it Graeme Edge’s drumming and John Lodge’s bass work comprise a more forceful and assertive rhythm section than they had on earlier records, on numbers such as “Lost in a Lost World,” “You and Me,” and “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock & Roll Band).”

The cover is VG++, with slight edge and corner wear.  The obi is VG, with a few wrinkles and a small repaired tear on the back.

The lyric insert is M- with slight foxing.

The disc is VG++ with no marks on the vinyl but with a number of spindle marks on the labels.  It’s a clean disc that has been well cared for.

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background: Released in 1969, Abbey Road was the final studio album recorded by the Beatles.  The album reached #1 on both the U.S. and UK album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Abbey Road a 5 star review:

In many ways, Abbey Road stands apart from the rest of the Beatles’ catalog, an album that gains considerable strength from its lush, enveloping production — a recording so luxuriant, it glosses over aesthetic differences between the group’s main three songwriters and ties together a series of disconnected unfinished songs into a complete suite. Where Sgt. Pepper pioneered such mind-bending aural techniques, Abbey Road truly seized the possibilities of the studio and, in doing so, pointed the way forward to the album rock era of the 1970s. Many of the studio tricks arrive during that brilliant suite of songs, a sequence that lasts nearly a full side of an album. … While a single song or segment can be dazzling, having a succession of marvelous, occasionally intertwined moments is not only a marvel but indeed a summation of everything that made the Beatles great.

Who – Who’s Next 1980 Japan LP with obi

the who - who's next japan lp

About this copy: This copy of Who’s Next is a 1980 Japanese pressing on the Polydor label of an album that was originally released in 1971.

The cover is VG++ with light edge and corner wear.  The obi is VG++ with slight wear at the bottom edge and a stain on the back side.

The lyric insert is M-.

The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Who LP.

Background: Released in 1971, Who’s Next was the fifth album by The Who.

The album reached #1 on the UK album chart and #4 on the U.S. chart.

Allmusic.com gave Who’s Next a 5 star review:

Much of Who’s Next derives from Lifehouse, an ambitious sci-fi rock opera Pete Townshend abandoned after suffering a nervous breakdown, caused in part from working on the sequel to Tommy. There’s no discernable theme behind these songs, yet this album is stronger than Tommy, falling just behind Who Sell Out as the finest record the Who ever cut. …. That is what the Who was about, not the rock operas, and that’s why Who’s Next is truer than Tommy or the abandoned Lifehouse. Those were art — this, even with its pretensions, is rock & roll.

About this copy: This copy of Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols is a 1977 Japanese issue on the Sex Pistols/Columbia label.

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-.  The lyric insert is M-.  The postcard is M-.

The disc is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, and no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a classic LP that’s hard to find as a first pressing.

Background: Released in 1977, Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols is the only studio album by the Sex Pistols.

The album reached #1 on the UK album chart and #106 on the U.S. chart, though it did eventually sell a million copies in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols a rare 5 star review:

While mostly accurate, dismissing Never Mind the Bollocks as merely a series of loud, ragged midtempo rockers with a harsh, grating vocalist and not much melody would be a terrible error. Already anthemic songs are rendered positively transcendent by Johnny Rotten’s rabid, foaming delivery. His bitterly sarcastic attacks on pretentious affectation and the very foundations of British society were all carried out in the most confrontational, impolite manner possible…. It’s easy to see how the band’s roaring energy, overwhelmingly snotty attitude, and Rotten’s furious ranting sparked a musical revolution, and those qualities haven’t diminished one bit over time. Never Mind the Bollocks is simply one of the greatest, most inspiring rock records of all time.

rush through time picture disc LP

Offered for sale is a limited edition picture disc of the compilation LP Rush Through Time, released only in the Netherlands in 1979.

Note: Though issued in the Netherlands as a domestic LP with a Dutch catalog number, the records were actually pressed in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of Rush Through Time is a 1979 Dutch pressing on the Epic label.

The cover is M-.  The disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful example of an attractive picture disc that has become surprisingly hard to find.

Background: Rush Through Time was the first Rush compilation LP, but for whatever reason, it was issued only in Europe, and not in the United States or Canada.

The album, originally issued only in the Netherlands and only as a picture disc, contained tracks from the Fly by Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, and A Farewell to Kings LPs.  The album was later issued as a standard black-vinyl LP.

Despite being pressed in the United States, the picture disc edition of the album was not widely imported back into the United States when new, and the album has always been hard to find.

Tracks are:

  • Fly By Night
  • Making Memories
  • Bastille Day
  • Something for Nothing
  • Cinderella Man
  • Anthem
  • Overture/Temples of Syrinx
  • The Twilight Zone
  • Best I Can

Nice – The Nice 1969 Japan LP with obi

the nice japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese copy of The Nice, the third album by the Nice, including the original obi.

Note: This album was titled Everything As Nice As Mother Makes It in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of The Nice is a 1969 Japanese pressing on the Immediate label.

The gatefold cover is VG++ with slight corner wear.

The obi is VG+,with a couple of foxing spots.  The “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) has been removed.

The insert is VG+ with a couple of minor foxing spots.

The black vinyl disc is M- on side one and VG++ and close to M- on side two with a couple of faint inaudible hairlines.  There are a few spindle marks on the labels.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a fairly hard to find LP.

Background: Released in 1969, The Nice (titled Everything As Nice As Mother Makes It in the U.S.) was the third album by the Nice, a band that featured Keith Emerson (later of Emerson, Lake & Palmer) on keyboards.

The album reached #3 on the UK album chart but did not chart in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave The Nice a 4 1/2 star review:

The Nice’s third album was their first to break them into the star recording bracket in the U.K., where it reached number three on the charts. Though only measuring six songs in all, it covered a lot of territory, in a rich mixture of psychedelic rock, jazz, and classical that did a lot to map the format for progressive rock. … More attention was given to the second side of the LP, recorded live at the Fillmore East, with a berserk workout of a number from their debut album, “Rondo” and a 12-minute overhaul of Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs to Me.”
