About this copy: This copy of In Celebration of the Comet is a mid-1970s U.S. pressing on the Amazing Korneyfone Record Label.

The plain white cover is M-. The insert is VG++ with a couple of minor stains from (removed) cellophane tape. The insert has been glued to the cover.

The disc is VG++ and close to M- with a couple of faint sleeve scuffs, but no other marks. Clean disc!

A nice copy of a well-recorded live album.

Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon sealed U.S. Mobile Fidelity LP

Offered for sale is a still sealed U.S. half speed mastered pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

This is the 1981 second issue of the LP with the slanted text “Original Master Recording” at the top of the front cover.

About this copy: This copy of The Dark Side of the Moon is a 1981 U.S. pressing on the Mobile Fidelity label of an album that was originally released in 1973.

While technically a U.S. release, the disc was pressed in Japan by JVC using their proprietary “Supervinyl” compound.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new unplayed.

The loose wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes. An original price sticker is attached to the wrap. A sticker that covered the price sticker that said “Factory Sealed For Your Protection” has been removed but is included.

There is a small break in the cover at the bottom edge under the wrap. This is common for this title due to the loose wrap.

A beautiful copy of a Pink Floyd LP that is often found with major cover wear.

Background: The Dark Side of the Moon was Pink Floyd’s eighth album and it’s the one that made them superstars. Reaching #1 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, the album is one of the biggest selling albums in history.

While the album topped the U.S. charts for only one week, it spent 741 weeks in the U.S. top 200 – fifteen years.

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. …Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.

Every title ever issued by Mobile Fidelity is collectible in its own right; their pressings from 1978 through 1989 were pressed in Japan by JVC on their proprietary Super Vinyl, an exceptionally resilient, dead-quiet vinyl compound, with later issues pressed in the U.S. by RTI on 200 gram vinyl. These records were mastered at half speed; both the tape and the cutting lathe were run at half the normal speed, allowing the cutting head to cut a more accurate groove in the acetate. The finished product featured dead-quiet vinyl, with improved dynamics, better imaging, and tighter bass. By their very nature, all of Mobile Fidelity’s titles were limited-edition pressings.

Pink Floyd – More 1970 red vinyl Japan LP with obi

Offered for sale is a Japanese red vinyl pressing of More, the third album by Pink Floyd, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of More is a 1970 Japanese pressing on the Odeon label of an album that was originally released in 1969.

This copy was pressed on “Everclean” red vinyl and includes a gatefold cover that was not included on the original 1969 issue.

The gatefold cover is VG+ with slight corner and edge wear. The obi is VG with a few wrinkles, but no tears. The “hojyuhyo” (reorder tag) is still attached.

This LP was issued without an insert.

The red vinyl disc is M- on side one and VG++ on side two with a couple of faint scuffs through the first two tracks. There are a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl. Clean disc!

A nice copy of a terrific record.

Background: Released in 1969, More was the third album by Pink Floyd and the first without founder Syd Barrett.

The album reached #153 on the U.S. album charts.

Commissioned as a soundtrack to the seldom-seen French hippie movie of the same name, More was a Pink Floyd album in its own right, reaching the Top Ten in Britain… Several of the tracks are pleasantly inconsequential, but this record does include some strong compositions, especially “Cymbaline,” “Green Is the Colour,” and “The Nile Song.” All of these developed into stronger pieces in live performances, and better, high-quality versions are available on numerous bootlegs.

As with most albums in Japan, More was released multiple times, with multiple catalog numbers, multiple obis, and on both black and red vinyl. The first issue was pressed on red vinyl and had a single pocket cover and a now-impossibly-hard-to-find “New Rock” obi; the second issue had a gatefold cover and was pressed on both red and black vinyl with a black obi with orange print. Later issues were pressed on black vinyl only and had an obi that was unique to that particular reissue.

The first issue is extraordinarily rare and rarely turns up for sale. The second issue, which came out the same year as the first one, was more successful in the Japanese market, but has become much harder to find in recent years, especially in good condition.

Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon complete 1973 Japan LP with obi

Pink Floyd the dark side of the moon Japan LP

Offered for sale is a complete 1973 Japanese pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, including the original obi and all inserts. Like the original UK issue, this pressing has a label with a blue triangle.

While this is technically a third pressing, it is part of the original 1973 release. The only difference between this version and the original version is the price printed on the obi and cover. First pressings had a ¥2000 price, the second issue had a ¥2200 sticker over the ¥2000 price. This version, from late 1973, has ¥2200 printed on the cover and obi.

This issue appears to have been pressed using UK stampers, as the original UK catalog number SHVL-804 is stamped in the dead wax.

The record is VG++, with a couple of light scuffs on each side. There are one or two spindle marks on the labels, and a couple of foxing spots. It’s a very clean disc that has clearly had little play.

A nice copy of an album that is astonishingly difficult to find as a clean 1973 pressing. This is easily the nicest copy we’ve ever had for sale.

While the album topped the U.S. charts for only one week, it spent 741 weeks in the U.S. top 200 – fifteen years.

Due to popularity with buyers, the album has been released in multiple limited editions around the world over the years, including several different colored vinyl pressings and as a picture disc.

In Japan, the album was issued multiple times with multiple variations, in 1973, 1974 (twice; stereo and quad), 1977, 1978 and 2016.

Offered for sale is a still sealed early U.S. pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, including both posters and both stickers.

This copy may or may not be a 1973 issue; see below for more details.

About this copy: This copy of The Dark Side of the Moon is 1973-1975 U.S. pressing on the Harvest label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed. The album should contain two stickers and two posters.

The wrap is fully intact except for a small 1 inch (3 cm) tear near the upper left-hand corner of the back cover.

There is a hype sticker attached to the shrink wrap that says “Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon.” The sticker does say “Made in USA” below the catalog number. An original price sticker is attached to the wrap.

The change in wording on the hype sticker to include “Made in USA” was made shortly after release, so some 1973 pressings had this wording on the sticker. The differences between the 1973, 1974 and 1975 U.S. pressings were on the inside of the cover. On the outside, they look the same.

As this copy is still sealed, we have no way of knowing the label or inside cover variation.

So, keeping all of that in mind, this particular copy may be an original 1973 release, or a 1974 or 1975 pressing.

Post-1975 pressings were on the Capitol label, rather than Harvest, so while this copy may be a 1973 issue, it is definitely a pressing from no later than 1975.

A nearly perfect copy of a classic LP that is rarely found in this condition.

A hard to find pressing of a great album by an iconic band.

Background: Released in 1968, A Saucerful of Secrets was the second album by Pink Floyd, the first to include guitarist/singer David Gilmour, and the last to include founder/guitarist/singer Syd Barrett.

The album reached #9 on the UK charts but only reached #158 on the U.S. charts.

A transitional album on which the band moved from Syd Barrett’s relatively concise and vivid songs to spacy, ethereal material with lengthy instrumental passages. Barrett’s influence is still felt (he actually did manage to contribute one track, the jovial “Jugband Blues”), and much of the material retains a gentle, fairy-tale ambience.

Background: Released in 1981, A Collection of Great Dance Songs is a compilation album containing tracks from Wish You Were Here, Meddle, Animals, and The Wall. A new version of “Money” was recorded for this LP.

The album reached #37 on the UK album charts and #31 on the U.S. charts.

Anyone who knew anything about Pink Floyd knew that a dance band they were not, so this compilation, courtesy of Columbia Records, was intended ironically. Arguably the quintessential album band, Pink Floyd is not well served by compilations, especially one on which four parts of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” are edited together and there’s a re-recording of “Money.”

In the early 1980s, CBS Records in the U.S. and Japan created a limited edition series of high quality audiophile pressings of then-new and older LPs that were pressed on premium vinyl and sold at a premium price.

In the U.S., most of the titles were half speed mastered. In Japan, most of the titles were digitally remastered pressings. The series did not last long and most titles were quickly discontinued. Escape was one of several Journey albums to be released as part of the series.

Offered for sale is an original 2 LP Japanese issue of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, including the original “cap” obi and all inserts.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a 1979 Japanese pressing on the CBS Sony label.

The cover is M-. The “cap” obi is M-. The original shrink wrap (torn) is included and the clear title sticker is still attached to the wrap.

The lyric insert and custom inner sleeves are M-. There is no foxing on the cover or sleeves.

The two discs are M- and look unplayed. Clean discs!

A nice copy of a classic LP and the nicest used copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Pink Floyd’s 1979 double album The Wall alienated a few fans and made the band a bunch of new ones. Regardless of opinion, the album sold in the millions and is highly regarded by audiophiles as being among the best-sounding albums in the band’s catalog.

The long-out-of-print Japanese pressing is generally regarded as the best, and has been on the Absolute Sound’s recommended list for decades.

The Wall was Roger Waters’ crowning accomplishment in Pink Floyd. It documented the rise and fall of a rock star (named Pink Floyd), based on Waters’ own experiences and the tendencies he’d observed in people around him. By then, the bassist had firm control of the group’s direction, working mostly alongside David Gilmour and bringing in producer Bob Ezrin as an outside collaborator. Drummer Nick Mason was barely involved, while keyboardist Rick Wright seemed to be completely out of the picture. Still, The Wall was a mighty, sprawling affair, featuring 26 songs with vocals: nearly as many as all previous Floyd albums combined.
