Offered for sale is a copy of the live/studio outtake LP Omayyad by Pink Floyd, issued on the collectible Trademark of Quality label.
Note: This LP appears black at first glance, but has a few faint gray streaks in it. This is one of the rarer versions of the album.
About this copy: This copy of Omayyad is a 1973 eighth pressing, with text on the side one label and the “sideways pig” on the side two label. Most copies of this version of the album were sold with generic die-cut covers; this one has a blue cover with the band name and title stamped on it.
Matrix numbers are PF515A-1/B-2.
The blue cover is VG, with discoloration along the edges and a small (1 cm) repaired split at each of the two right hand corners. The title has been stamped on the cover, and it’s clean and fully legible. There is a green sticker on the cover that says “TRADE MARK OF QUALITY.”
The insert is a reproduction.
The disc is VG+, with a couple of marks at the beginning of side one (see photo) that cause about 30 seconds of tics and a hairline on that side. There are a few minor sleeve scuffs on the disc. It’s a clean disc that plays well, though it does have some noise, as is common with this title.
There are some faint gray streaks on the vinyl that are not prominent, but in the right light, they are visible.
A nice copy of a scarce variation of a rare (and very good) Pink Floyd LP. This is the first copy of this version that we’ve ever had for sale.
Background: Released in 1972, Omayyad (sometimes written as, “Omay yad) was one of only two Pink Floyd titles (the other was Pink Floyd Live, aka “Cymbaline”) released on the Trademark or Quality label, as the band had not yet become superstars during the label’s heyday.
Both titles are quite rare today.
Omayyad included a mixture of both studio and live tracks:
- Oenone (studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
- Fingal’s Cave (studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
- Interstellar Overdrive (live – Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, California, May 1, 1970*)
- Crumbling Land (long version; studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
- Rain in the Country (studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
- Embryo (live – Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, California, May 1, 1970*)
*The live tracks were long thought to come from an October 27, 1971 show in Chicago, Illinois, but this has turned out to be incorrect.
