Offered for sale is a rare true mono pressing of the 1967 LP Little Games by the Yardbirds, featuring Jimmy Page on guitar.
About this copy: This copy of Little Games is a rare mono pressing on the Epic label. Unlike most “mono” copies, this one actually plays in mono!
The cover is VG, with general wear and a punch hole in the upper left hand corner.
The disc is VG++, with a couple of very faint inaudible marks on side one. Side two is M-. There are no spindle marks on the labels, so this LP has likely only been played once or twice.
A beautiful copy of a record that’s surprisingly hard to find in mono.
Background: Little Games, released in July 1967, was the final album by the Yardbirds. The LP was originally released only in the United States, and sold rather poorly, reaching #80 on the U.S. album charts.
Little Games was the band’s only studio LP recorded with Jimmy Page on guitar.
While the album was released in both mono and stereo, as was the custom at the time, most copies sold were stereo copies, as most buyers preferred stereo pressings by that time, and the mono version was deleted in early 1968.
Due to a manufacturing error, most “mono” copies of Little Games were mistakenly pressed in stereo, and play in stereo despite having mono labels!
True mono pressings have the matrix number XEM 118049 on side 1 and XEM 118050 on side 2. These numbers are also stamped in the dead wax area of the vinyl.
Most copies sold as mono pressings actually have the numbers XSB 118049 and XSB 118050 on the labels and stamped in the dead wax area of the LP.
These are the numbers for the stereo pressing, and those copies, even though they have mono labels and were shipped in mono covers, actually play in stereo!
The “true mono” pressings of this LP are surprisingly rare; the last time we had one was 30 years ago!
