Wendy & Bonnie – Genesis rare 1969 Japan LP with obi

A rare Japanese pressing of Genesis, the only album by Wendy & Bonnie.

Offered for sale is a rare Japanese pressing of the 1969 pop/psych LP Genesis, the only album by Wendy & Bonnie, complete with obi and lyric insert.

Wendy & Bonnie Flower were sisters from California, who recorded a single album of slightly psychedelic pop for the tiny Skye label in 1969.  Backed by members of LA’s famed Wrecking Crew, the album is a solid collection of self-penned tunes that virtually disappeared on its initial release.  Skye Records had poor distribution and the label primarily focused on jazz, as the label was owned by jazz musicians Cal Tjader and Gabor Szabo.

Despite the young ages of the singers (Wendy was 17 and Bonnie only 13 at the time of recording), the album is a surprisingly mature work with some great tunes.  It’s also nearly impossible to find, and until we found this particular copy, we were unaware that the album had ever been issued anywhere other than the United States.

The album was reissued by Sundazed a few years ago, but original pressings are still in high demand, and for good reason – it’s a great record.

You can hear a track from the album, “Let Yourself Go Another Time” here:

About this copy:
This particular pressing of Genesis is something we’ve never seen and never even knew existed – an original 1969 Japanese pressing on the Fontana label, complete with original obi and lyric insert.  The cover is VG++, with very slight wear at the bottom edge.  The obi is VG+, with a small 1/8″ tear at the bottom.  The disc is VG++, and aside from one or two slight scuffs, is nearly mint.  It appears to have been played a couple of times.  The original lyric insert is included.

A stunning copy of very rare, and terrific, record.
