A red vinyl, white label promo copy of the Japan-only compilation LP The Best of the Troggs, complete with obi
Offered for sale is a rare red vinyl, white label promotional copy of a Japan-only compilation album by the Troggs, entitled The Best of the Troggs, including the original obi.
While best known in the U.S. for “Wild Thing”, the Troggs actually had a number of other hits, including “With a Girl Like You” and “Love is All Around.” Although compilations of the band’s work have been issued in a number of countries, this 14 track LP seems to have been issued only in Japan and has a unique cover.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a white label promotional copy pressed on red “Everclean” vinyl with the original obi and “hojyuhyo”, or reorder tag still attached.
We have no idea if the red vinyl issue was promo-only or if they also used it for stock copies, as we’ve never seen a stock copy for sale anywhere. Over the years, we’ve only seen two other copies offered for sale and both were also promotional copies, though this copy is the only one we’ve ever seen with the rare obi.
The cover is VG, with wear on the edges and corners. The obi is also VG, with some wrinkles and a stain on the reorder tag. The red vinyl disc is VG++, and almost M-; it just has a couple of very faint marks from being removed from the sleeve.
We doubt it’s been played more than once or twice, though one label has a couple of spindle marks on it. There is no lyric insert; we don’t know if the album was originally issued with one or not, as the information usually present on the insert is printed on the back cover.
A nice copy of a very rare record.
