Description

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of It’s Time for Tina, by Tina Louise, including the original obi.

Originally released in 1958, this is the only album ever recorded by Tina Louise, best known as Ginger Grant on the 1960s TV show, Gilligan’s Island.  The album features Coleman Hawkins on saxophone.

About this copy: This copy of It’s Time for Tina is a 1988 pressing on the DIW label.

This album appears to be “new old stock” and is likely brand new and unplayed.

While the album was released in the U.S. in 1958, we believe this to be the first issue in Japan.

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-.  The lyric insert is M-.

The disc is  M- with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A beautiful copy of a rare (and very good) pop LP.

Background: Like many other TV and movie stars of the 1950s and 1960s, Tina Louise made an attempt at a side career as a singer.

While her 1958 release It’s Time for Tina has been well-regarded by critics, it sold poorly on first release on the small Concert Hall label.  Original U.S. copies have sold for up to $1000 on the collector’s market.

Allmusic.com gave It’s Time for Tina a 3 star review:

Kitsch value aside, what makes It’s Time for Tina a cut above most celebrity reissues is the album’s conceptual ambition: its sultry songs are arranged in order to create a storyline depicting a night of romance with Tina Louise herself. Plus, it’s got Coleman Hawkins on saxophone — how can you possibly go wrong?
