Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. mono pressing of Straight, No Chaser, by Thelonious Monk.
While the shrink wrap has been removed from the cover, the record is still sealed in the original plastic inner sleeve.
About this copy: This copy of Straight, No Chaser is an original U.S. pressing on the Columbia “two eye” label.
As the inner sleeve is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.
The cover is VG+, with no wear, but with moderate foxing. There are no tears or splits.
The mono disc is a first issue, with stampers that end in “-1C” on both sides.
A beautiful copy of a terrific LP.
Background: Released in 1967, Straight, No Chaser, was the sixth album Thelonious Monk recorded for Columbia Records.
The title track has since become a Jazz standard.
This is the sixth studio album cut by Thelonious Monk under the production/direction of Teo Macero for Columbia and as such should not be confused with the original motion picture soundtrack to the 1988 film of the same name. The band featured here includes: Monk (piano), Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), Ben Riley (drums), and Larry Gales (bass). This would be the final quartet Monk would assemble to record with in the studio.
