Offered for sale is a still sealed gold vinyl pressing of Pieces of Eight by Styx, released as a limited edition in Canada in 1978.
About this copy: This copy of Pieces of Eight is from a limited edition pressing on gold vinyl, issued only in Canada in 1978. This copy is still sealed; the record is presumably new and unplayed. There is a hype sticker on the shrink wrap indicating that the record is a “Special Gold Vinyl Edition.”
This copy is unusual in that it does not have a drill hole in the cover. This album did not sell as well as A&M Records had hoped, and many of these gold vinyl pressings have cutout holes in the cover.
Aside from a 3″ break in the shrink wrap at the mouth of the cover, the wrap on this one is fully intact with no other tears or holes. It’s a beautiful copy of a pretty good record.
Background: In the late 1970s, collectors were showing a lot of interest in colored vinyl LPs, so record companies around the world began releasing limited edition versions of some of their older and then-new releases on colored vinyl. Most of these were available for a short time only and are quite hard to find today.
Pieces of Eight, released in 1978, was the eighth album by Styx, and the album did quite well, reaching #6 on the Billboard charts and being certified 3x platinum, with the help of the songs “Renegade” and “Blue Collar Man.”
