Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. stereo pressing of Messages from the Status Quo, the debut LP by the Status Quo.

About this copy: This copy of Messages from the Status Quo is a 1968 U.S. pressing on the Cadet Concept label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is mostly intact, but there are several tears in the wrap, including a 5″ (12 cm) tear at the bottom edge and smaller tears at a couple of the corners.

There is a hype sticker on the wrap that says “Featuring Pictures of Matchstick Men.”

A nice copy of a rare pop/rock/psych LP and the only copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1968, Messages from the Status Quo is the first album by the Status Quo.

The album did not chart in either the U.S. or the UK, but the song “Pictures of Matchstick Men” reached #7 on the UK charts and #12 on the U.S. charts.

Two albums later, the band switched gears, started playing blues-based boogie, and became one of Britain’s most popular bands.

Allmusic.com gave Messages from the Status Quo a 4 star review:

Status Quo’s debut album featured none of the band’s better-known boogie rock of the mid-’70s. Picturesque… is a psychedelic effort that tries to imitate the sound bands like the Bee Gees or the Beatles were doing at the moment. … Even if this is not the most representative album from Status Quo, it is a good psychedelic pop exercise that sometimes includes very imaginative guitar phrases (“Ice in the Sun”), and some brilliantly unusual sounds (the epic “Paradise Flat”).
