Offered for sale is a still sealed mono pressing of the 1967 LP by Sebastian Cabot – Sebastian Cabot, Actor – Bob Dylan Poet.
About this copy: This copy of Sebastian Cabot, Actor – Bob Dylan Poet is an original still sealed mono pressing. The record is presumably new and unplayed. The wrap is intact with no rips or tears. There is a punch hole in the lower left hand corner and what appear to be two small staple holes near the upper left hand corner.
A beautiful copy of a cult classic and one of our favorite guilty pleasures.
Background: The full title of this cult classic is actually the rather awkward Sebastian Cabot Actor – A Dramatic Reading with Music – Bob Dylan, Poet.
That’s a mess of a title, but the album is actually quite entertaining. Sebastian Cabot is best remembered for playing the manservant Mr. French in the 1960s television show Family Affair.
In the mid-1960s, Bob Dylan was being hailed as the greatest thing since Shakespeare, and everyone was covering his material. The Byrds, the Turtles, Sonny & Cher, Peter, Paul & Mary and countless others were recording every Dylan song they could find, and it was only a matter of time before someone took the spoken word approach to read Dylan’s lyrics to us, rather than sing them.
In this case, Mr. Cabot delivers impassioned readings of twelve of Dylan’s better known (at that time) songs, giving them the gravitas that the intelligentsia felt that they deserved, backed by a string section arranged by Irving Spice.
The result actually works, and we’ll freely admit that we’ve had a copy of this one in our collection for decades.
