About this copy: This copy of Late Date With Ruth Brown is an original 1959 stereo pressing on the rare green Atlantic label.
The cover is VG, with some general wear, a small split on the bottom edge that has been secured with cellophane tape, and a fair amount of writing on the back cover.
The disc is VG+, with two significant hairlines that likely will not affect play. The record has been well cared for and still has a lot of shine.
A nice copy of a terrific LP.
Background: Late Date With Ruth Brown was Brown’s third album for Atlantic and her first to be released in stereo. Original green label stereo pressings of this LP are quite scarce, as Atlantic only used the green label through late 1960 before switching to the green/blue label they used through most of the 1960s.
Allmusic.com gave Late Date With Ruth Brown a 4 star review:
A good after-hours, smoky blues and R&B session featuring Ruth Brown in prime form. Nobody, male or female, sang with more spirit, sass, and vigor than Brown during the ’50s, and this session reminded those who had forgotten that Brown could also hold her own with sophisticated material as well as sexy stuff.
