About this copy: This copy of Hemispheres is a 1981 Japanese pressing of an album that was originally released in 1978.
The cover is VG, with some foxing and wear along the top edge. The obi is VG++, with no rips or tears, but a couple of minor wrinkles. The lyric insert is M-.
The record is M- and aside from a single spindle mark on one label, looks unplayed.
A nice copy of a rare LP, as Rush albums sold quite poorly in Japan.
Background: Hemispheres, released in 1978, was the sixth album by Rush, reaching #14 on the Canadian charts and #47 on the U.S. charts, though it was later certified platinum by the RIAA for sales of one million units.
While such albums as 1980’s Permanent Waves and 1981’s Moving Pictures are usually considered Rush’s masterpieces (and with good reason), 1978’s Hemispheres is just as deserving. Maybe the fact that the album consists of only four compositions (half are lengthy pieces) was a bit too intimidating for some, but the near 20-minute-long “Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres” is arguably the band’s finest extended track.
