Offered for sale is an original, still sealed U.S. pressing of Country Life by Roxy Music, with the green shrink wrap on the front cover to prevent buyers from seeing the then-risque cover art.
The second pressings had standard clear shrink wrap, and subsequent pressings used different cover art that eliminated the two women completely from the front cover.
About this copy: This copy of Country Life is an original 1974 pressing on the Atco label.
As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.
This copy has shrink wrap that is opaque green on the front side, which prevents you from seeing the scantily-clad women on the front cover, but has clear shrink wrap on the back so that you can read the song titles.
The wrap is mostly intact, except for a small (1/2″ or so) missing piece in the center of the back cover and slightly “balding” corners.
There is a hype sticker attached to the wrap that lists the artist, album title, and song titles. The sticker has some discoloration from age.
A beautiful copy of a terrific LP and the first sealed copy we’ve seen since we bought one new in 1974.
Background: Released in 1974, Country Life was the fourth album by Roxy Music.
The album reached #3 on the UK charts, and #37 on the U.S. charts.
Continuing with the stylistic developments of Stranded, Country Life finds Roxy Music at the peak of their powers, alternating between majestic, unsettling art rock and glamorous, elegant pop/rock. …And, in many ways, Country Life offers the greatest and most consistent set of Roxy Music songs, illustrating their startling depth. From the sleek rock of “All I Want Is You” and “Prairie Rose” to the elegant, string-laced pop of “A Really Good Time,” Country Life is filled with thrilling songs, and Roxy Music rarely sounded as invigorating as they do here.
