Offered for sale is an original U.S. pressing of Meet the Residents by the Residents, featuring the original cover that parodied the cover of Meet the Beatles.
This original 1974 pressing was limited to 1000 copies, as stated on the back cover.
About this copy: This copy of Meet the Residents is a 1974 pressing on the Ralph Records label.
The cover is VG+ with light ring wear and a bit of discoloration from age, but no splits or writing. There is trace wear at the two left hand corners.
The disc is VG++, with some minor scuffs from being removed from the inner sleeve that are common to 1970s LPs. There are no other marks on the vinyl and no spindle marks on the labels. The LP has clearly had very little play. Clean disc!
A nice copy of a rare Residents LP and only the second copy we’ve ever had for sale.

The album did not chart.
The cover, which is a distortion of the artwork for Meet the Beatles, is often described as “banned” or “withdrawn due to a Beatles lawsuit,” but in fact, the pressing was intentionally limited to 1000 copies, making any potential threats of a lawsuit irrelevant, as the album essentially went out of print immediately upon release.
Subsequent reissues had a different cover, though recent reissues have restored the original “parody” cover.

The Residents are true avant-garde crazies. Their earliest albums (of which this is the first) have precedents in Captain Beefheart’s experimental albums, Frank Zappa’s conceptual numbers from Freak Out!, the work of Steve Reich, and the compositions of chance music tonemeister John Cage — yet the Residents’ work of this time really sounds like nothing else that exists. …This is an utterly bizarre platter that may appeal to very adventurous listeners.
