Offered for sale is a copy of the 1978 Japanese Pro-Use audiophile series pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, including all inserts and the original obi.
Many audiophiles regard this pressing as the best-sounding version of the album.
About this copy: This copy of The Dark Side of the Moon is a 1978 Japanese pressing on the EMI label of an album that was originally released in 1973.
The cover is VG++ and close to M- with very slight corner wear. The obi is M-. The insert is M-. The booklet is M-.
Unlike earlier Japanese pressings, this issue does not include posters or a sticker/card.
The disc is visually M- with no marks on the vinyl, but with a number of spindle marks on the labels. It’s a clean disc that plays with slight surface noise.
A nice copy of a scarce Pink Floyd LP.
Background: In 1978, EMI-Toshiba introduced a limited edition audiophile series of albums in Japan. Most of the titles were classical or Jazz titles by artists who were not well known, but the series also included Abbey Road by the Beatles and The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.
Both titles offered exceptionally good sound and have long been sought out by audiophiles.
The Dark Side of the Moon was Pink Floyd’s eighth album and it’s the one that made them superstars. Reaching #1 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, the album is one of the biggest selling albums in history.
While the album topped the U.S. charts for only one week, it spent 741 weeks in the U.S. top 200 – fifteen years.

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. …Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.
