Offered for sale is a complete copy of the 1978 limited edition German white vinyl pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, including both posters and inserts.

Though this album was issued on white vinyl in both Germany and the Netherlands, the German issue is far harder to find and the only one of the two that included inserts.

About this copy: This copy of The Dark Side of the Moon is a 1978 German pressing on the EMI/Harvest label.

The cover is VG+, with slight wear at the four corners and with a small saw mark in the upper left hand corner.  This one’s nice; this pressing usually has significant issues with cover damage.

There is a printed white circle on the cover that says, “Farbige Pressung Limitierte Sonderauflage” (Colored Pressing Limited Special Edition.)

The two posters are M- and have no rips, tears, or holes.

This copy was not issued with stickers, as the UK and U.S. issues were. Instead, the graphics used on the stickers were printed on white paper.  Both are M-.

The white vinyl disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Beautiful disc!

An exceptionally nice example of a rare Pink Floyd LP and the only copy we’ve ever seen that was complete.

Background: In the late 1970s, record companies around the world issued a number of albums as limited editions on colored vinyl, including then-new titles as well as older catalog titles.

These albums were issued primarily in the United States, Great Britain, France, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands, though pressings from Germany and France were rarely imported in to the United States.

Among the titles issued was The Dark Side of the Moon, which was issued in France (on clear vinyl and blue vinyl) and in Germany and the Netherlands, with both of issues on white vinyl.

These colored vinyl pressings were sold at prices that were roughly twice the price of standard black vinyl LPs, and as such, they did not sell particularly well, and the colored vinyl fad was a short-lived one.

The Dark Side of the Moon was Pink Floyd’s eighth album and it’s the one that made them superstars. Reaching #1 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, the album is one of the biggest selling albums in history.

While the album topped the U.S. charts for only one week, it spent 741 weeks in the U.S. top 200 – fifteen years.

Due to popularity with buyers, the album has been released in multiple limited editions around the world over the years, including several different colored vinyl pressings and as a picture disc.

In Japan, the album was issued multiple times with multiple variations, in 1973, 1974 (twice; stereo and quad), 1977, 1978 and 2016. gave The Dark Side of the Moon a rare 5 star review:

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. …Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.
