Offered for sale is a complete early U.S. pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, including both posters and both stickers.
We rarely have these for sale, as they’re nearly impossible to find both complete and in acceptable condition.
About this copy: This copy of The Dark Side of the Moon is a 1975 third issue of an album that was originally issued in 1973, pressed on the Harvest label.
This pressing is identified by the perimeter text on the label that says, “Mfd. by Capitol Records, Inc., a subsidiary of Capitol Industries-EMI, Inc., U.S.A. – Capitol Marca Reg. – All rights reserved. Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws.”
This copy was pressed at Capitol’s Los Angeles pressing plant.
The cover is VG+, with slight wear at the corners and edges and faint general wear.
The disc is M-, with a couple of faint scuffs from being removed from the original paper inner sleeve. There are a couple of spindle marks on the labels, suggesting that the album has only been played a couple of times.
The posters are VG++, with no holes, rips or tears, but with slight wear at the folds.
One sticker is VG+, with a slight fold. The other is M-, and a bit of the border adjacent to the sticker is missing.
A nice copy of an album that is surprisingly difficult to find as a clean, complete, early pressing.
Background: The Dark Side of the Moon was Pink Floyd’s eighth album and it’s the one that made them superstars. Reaching #1 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, the album is one of the biggest selling albums in history.
While the album topped the U.S. charts for only one week, it spent 741 weeks in the U.S. top 200 – fifteen years.
Due to popularity with buyers, the album has been released in multiple limited editions around the world over the years, including several different colored vinyl pressings and as a picture disc.
In Japan, the album was issued multiple times with multiple variations, in 1973, 1974 (twice; stereo and quad), 1977, 1978 and 2016.
By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. …Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.
