Description

Offered for sale is a rare blue vinyl pressing of Omayyad by Pink Floyd, released by the collectible Trademark of Quality label and including the original insert.

About this copy: This copy of Omayyad is an early TMOQ pressing, with “1” and “2” on the labels, rather than the pig logos used on later pressings.  These labels have rings on the edges, which are indicative of a second pressing.

Matrix numbers are PF515A-1/B-2.

The beige-colored cover is VG, with moderate wear and repaired 2″ splits at the mouth of the cover on top and bottom.

The title of the album has been well-stamped on the cover, and there’s an orange sticker that says “Trade Mark of Quality” on the cover.  There is a rubber stamp on the back cover from a record store in Faaborg, Denmark.

The insert is original.

The blue vinyl disc is VG+, with a few sleeve scuffs and a faint inaudible mark through the first track on side two.

This disc has been played fairly often but was well cared for, though it does play with a bit of surface noise, as is common on these TMOQ pressings.

A nice copy of a rare Pink Floyd LP and the first copy of this title that we’ve had for sale in decades.  Really good album, too!

Background: Released in 1972, Omayyad was one of only two Pink Floyd titles (the other was Pink Floyd Live, aka “Cymbaline”) released on the Trademark or Quality label, as the band had not yet become superstars.

Both titles are quite rare today.

Omayyad included a mixture of both studio and live tracks:

  • Oenone (studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
  • Fingal’s Cave (studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
  • Interstellar Overdrive (live – Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, California, May 1, 1970*)
  • Crumbling Land (long version; studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
  • Rain in the Country (studio outtake from the soundtrack to Zabriskie Point)
  • Embryo (live – Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, California, May 1, 1970*)

*The live tracks were long thought to come from an October 27, 1971 show in Chicago, Illinois, but this has turned out to be incorrect.
