Description

Offered for sale is a limited edition pressing of Neil Young’s Harvest, pressed on peach-colored vinyl and released in the Netherlands in 1978.

Note: This is an original 1978 issue and not the more recent issue that was pressed on white vinyl.

About this copy: This copy of Harvest is part of a limited edition series of colored vinyl albums released in the Netherlands in 1978, and is pressed on peach-colored (or cream-colored) vinyl that roughly matches the color of the album cover.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with a slight dent in the lower right hand corner at the mouth.  The lyric insert is M-.

The colored vinyl disc is M- and looks like it’s only been played a couple of times.  Beautiful disc!

A beautiful copy of a classic album, and the nicest example of this hard-to-find LP that we’ve ever seen.

Background: In the late 1970s, record companies decided to issue a number of limited edition colored vinyl pressings of both then-new and older catalog titles in order to persuade collectors to buy additional copies of albums they already owned as collector’s items – at a premium price, of course.

Many of these titles were pressed in Europe and were widely exported to the United States, where they were easily found in record stores pretty much everywhere. The fad was short-lived, and by 1980, record companies largely went back to just pressing everything on black vinyl.

One of these titles was Harvest, Neil Young’s fourth album, originally released in 1971. Harvest was a massive success, reaching #1 on the American and UK album charts and being certified 4 times platinum, helped by the singles “Old Man” and “Heart of Gold,” which itself topped the singles chart.

Allmusic.com gave Harvest a 4 1/2 star review:

Neil Young’s most popular album, Harvest benefited from the delay in its release (it took 18 months to complete due to Young’s back injury), which whetted his audience’s appetite, the disintegration of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Young’s three erstwhile partners sang on the album, along with Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor), and most of all, a hit single. “Heart of Gold,” released a month before Harvest, was already in the Top 40 when the LP hit the stores, and it soon topped the charts.
