Description

Offered for sale are two copies of the Japan-only LP Nancy by Nancy Sinatra, with each album including the original obi.

Note: The 10″ (30 cm) album was the first Nancy Sinatra LP to be released anywhere in the world and is a compilation of her first five singles, none of which charted in the U.S.

One copy is the original 1963 10″ mono 10 track version of the album.
The other is the original 1964 12″ stereo 12 track version of the album, which includes the two tracks from her sixth single.

About these copies:  These copies of Nancy are the original Japanese releases, issued in 1963 and 1964, respectively.

Nancy – the 10″ LP (JET-4070, 1963) MONO

The cover is VG++, with a small tear in the lower left corner of the back, a bit of wear at the corners and a punch hole.  The original (plain) paper sleeve is included.

The original obi is complete with no holes or tears.    This LP was issued without an insert.

The disc is VG++ on side one, with just a couple of very faint sleeve scuffs.  Side two is M-.  This disc clearly has seen little play.

Nancy – the 12″ LP (SJET-7326, 1964) STEREO

The cover is VG+, with a few wrinkles and a disc impression in the thin, laminated cover but no wear.  There’s a minor amount of foxing on the back cover, but no tears.

The obi is VG++, with slight foxing on the back, but no tears.     This LP was issued without an insert.

The disc is VG++, and very close to M-, with just one or two very minor inaudible scuffs on each side.  The disc has likely only been played once or twice.

A gorgeous set of two records that are nearly impossible to find with the obi.  We’ve seen the 10″ sell for $600 without the obi, and we’ve never seen the 12″ version at all.  The 12″ version is not listed at Discogs.

Background: While Nancy Sinatra had a number of hits starting with “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” in 1965, she’d actually been releasing singles, largely without success, since 1961.

Her first ten singles went unnoticed in the United States, and the eleventh, “So Long, Babe,” only reached #86 on the charts.

She was more successful in Japan, however.  In fact, she was so successful that in 1963, her Japanese label, Reprise Records, released a ten-inch LP containing the A and B sides of her first five singles.

As far as we know, this ten inch LP was the first Nancy Sinatra album to be released anywhere in the world.

Tracks on the ten inch LP:

  • I See The Moon
  • Tonight You Belong To me
  • You Can Have Any Boy
  • Cuff Kinks And A Tie Clip
  • Not Just A Friend
  • Like I Do
  • To Know Him Is To Love Him
  • Put Your Head On My Shoulder
  • Think Of Me
  • June, July And August

The 12″ version of the album was released in 1964 and includes all of the songs above, plus both sides of Nancy’s 1963 sixth single:

  • One Way
  • Cruel War

These albums did not sell particularly well and were soon deleted.  As far as we know, these LPs were released only in Japan, and have never been reissued in Japan or anywhere else.

You can listen to her first single, “Cuff Links and a Tie Clip” here:
