Offered for sale is a still sealed mono copy of the second album by the Monkees, More of the Monkees.
About this copy: This copy of More of the Monkees is an original, still sealed mono pressing of the album on the original Colgems label. The record is presumably new and unplayed.
The shrinkwrap is tight and complete, aside from a small 1″ square piece that’s slightly torn at the bottom of the back cover (right next to the word “COLGEMS.”) There are no holes or sawmarks.
It’s a gorgeous copy of a record that’s quite hard to find in this condition.
Background: The Monkees were an instant success when their TV show hit the air in 1966 and their success translated to record sales, too. Their first four albums all hit #1 on the American album charts, and their first six singles mad the Top 10.
More of the Monkees was released in January, 1967, just 90 days after the release of the band’s self-titled debut. With instruments by LA’s famed Wrecking Crew and songs by such writers as Gerry Goffin, Carole King and Neil Diamond, the album spawned a #1 hit with Diamond’s “I’m a Believer,” and even that single’s B-Side, “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” made the Top 20.
The album was released in both stereo and mono, and while the mono copies outsold the stereo copies on original release, the mono pressings were deleted about a year later, and all subsequent pressings were stereo until the recent release of the mono box set, making mono pressings of More of the Monkees comparatively rare.
