Offered for sale is an original U.S. promotional copy of the double album …And Justice for All by Metallica.
Copies sold in stores were pressed on black, opaque vinyl. Promotional copies were pressed on high-quality, translucent “audiophile” vinyl.
About this copy: This copy of …And Justice for All is a 1988 pressing on the Elektra label.
The cover is VG+ with slight edge wear. There is a saw mark on the spine; all promotional copies have this. There is also a bit of residue from a removed price sticker.
There are two hype stickers on the cover – one says “9 New Songs” and mentions that the album was direct metal mastered. The other sticker says that the album was “pressed on high-quality audiophile vinyl.” There is a promotional stamp on the back cover.
The two custom inner sleeves are M- with no splits.
This copy is somewhat unusual in that the record has stock labels that do not say, “Promotion copy – Not for Sale.” However, the discs are pressed on the high-quality translucent vinyl that was used only for promotional copies.
The two discs are M-, with a couple of spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl. Clean discs!
A nice copy of a rare Metallica LP.
Background: Released in 1988, …And Justice Fro All was the fourth studio album by Metallica.
The album reached #4 on the UK charts and #6 in the U.S.
The most immediately noticeable aspect of …And Justice for All isn’t Metallica’s still-growing compositional sophistication or the apocalyptic lyrical portrait of a society in decay. It’s the weird, bone-dry production. The guitars buzz thinly, the drums click more than pound, and Jason Newsted’s bass is nearly inaudible. It’s a shame that the cold, flat sound obscures some of the sonic details, because …And Justice for All is Metallica’s most complex, ambitious work; every song is an expanded suite, with only two of the nine tracks clocking in at under six minutes. It takes a while to sink in, but given time, …And Justice for All reveals some of Metallica’s best material.
