Offered for sale is an original U.S. mono pressing of the 1965 self-titled debut LP by Marianne Faithfull.
About this copy: This copy of Marianne Faithfull is an original U.S. mono copy on the London label.
The cover retains the original shrink wrap. It’s M-, aside from a bit of wear in the lower right hand corner.
The disc is VG++, with a few scuffs from the heavy paper inner sleeve and a few spindle marks. The LP has clearly had little play.
Background: Marianne Faithfull was the debut LP by the singer of the same name, and featured the #9 (U.S.) single “As Tears Go By.”
Helped by the single, the LP reached #12 on the U.S. charts and #15 in the UK, where the album was released with a different cover and a slightly different track lineup.
Her erratic, self-titled debut features lovely baroque arrangements by Mike Leander and decent tunes like “As Tears Go By,” and Jackie DeShannon’s “Come and Stay With Me” and “In My Time of Sorrow,” and Bacharach/David’s “If I Never Get to Love You,” as well as fairly crummy covers of hits by the Beatles, Herman’s Hermits, and Petula Clark.
