Offered for sale is a sealed original mono pressing of the 1967 LP Deliver, by the Mamas & the Papas.
About this copy: The copy of Deliver offered for sale is an original 1967 mono pressing. The album is still sealed and is believed to be new and unplayed. This is a first pressing of the LP, without the RIAA Gold Record logo on the cover.
There are a couple of small breaks in the shrink wrap – one near the bottom of the mouth of the cover where the cover has been slightly “nicked.” There is also a 1″ tear at the top center of the wrap, and the cover has a small (1″ or so) split there.
A beautiful copy of a terrific album and a hard album to find in mono.
Background: Deliver was the third in a series of hit album by the Mamas & the Papas, and bolstered by the singles “Creeque Alley” and “Dedicated to the One I Love,” the album sold well. Deliver was the last of the Mamas & Papas LPs to be released in both mono and stereo versions and the mono version was only in print about a year before the label phased out mono albums completely.
Since 1968, all pressings of this album have been in stereo only, making the mono version, with its unique mix, somewhat of a rarity.
By the time the Mamas & the Papas recorded and released their third album, the group was continuing, in the words of singer Denny Doherty, “on its own momentum.” Much of the record, frankly, doesn’t sound too different than the group’s first two albums, but with the songwriting, vocal, and production excellence, why tamper with genius? The group felt so too, which is why this album is Michelle Phillips’ personal favorite. It’s not too hard to see why.
