Description
Offered for sale is a copy of the Japan-only compilation LP The Mamas and Papas’ Golden Album by the Mamas and the Papas, including the original obi.
This LP compiles tracks from the group’s first three albums and is an expanded version of the U.S. LP Farewell to the First Golden Era.
About this copy: This copy of The Mamas and Papas’ Golden Album is a 1968 Japanese pressing on the Victor label.
The gatefold cover is M-. The nearly-always-missing obi is M- with no tears. The original RCA-branded rice paper inner sleeve is M-.
This LP was issued without a lyric insert, as that information was printed inside the gatefold cover.
The record is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl. Clean disc!
A beautiful copy of a rare Mamas and Papas LP that is nearly impossible to find complete.
Background: The Mamas and the Papas released their first album in early 1966, and by late 1967, they’d already placed nine songs on the Billboard singles charts.
For the holiday season in 1967, their American label, Dunhill Records, released a best-of album called Farewell to the First Golden Era, containing those nine hits plus three album tracks.
In Japan, the album was titled The Mamas and Papas’ Golden Album. The Japanese LP had a different and better cover (and a gatefold cover, at that), a different running order, and two extra tracks that weren’t included on the American release (“No Salt on Her Tail” and “Dancing Bear.”)
Tracks are:
- California Dreamin’
- Monday, Monday
- I Saw Her Again Last Night
- Look Through My Window
- Go Where You Wanna Go
- I Call Your Name
- Dancing in the Street
- Words of Love
- Dedicated to the One I Love
- Creeque Alley
- Twelve Thirty (Young Girls are Coming to the Canyon)
- No Salt on Her Tail
- Got a Feelin’
- Dancing Bear
