Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed original U.S. pressing of Street Survivors by Lynyrd Skynyrd, with the withdrawn “flames” cover.

About this copy: This copy of Street Survivors is a 1977 U.S. pressing on the MCA label.

As the album is still sealed, the LP is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is mostly intact; there is a small split in the middle of the bottom edge and a tear in the wrap in the lower right hand corner.

A nice example of an album that is rarely found sealed.

Background: Released in 1977, Street Survivors was the fifth album by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The album reached #5 on the U.S. album charts.

Three days after the album’s release, three members of the band were killed in an airplane crash.  Soon after, the U.S. record company changed the front cover to a photo showing the band posing against a black background, making the original cover showing the band covered in flames an instant collectible.

Allmusic.comg gave Street Survivors a 4 1/2 star review:

Street Survivors appeared in stores just days before Lynyrd Skynyrd’s touring plane crashed, tragically killing many members of the band, including lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant. Consequently, it’s hard to see Street Survivors outside of the tragedy, especially since the best-known song here, “That Smell,” reeks of death and foreboding. If the band had lived, however, Street Survivors would have been seen as an unqualified triumph, a record that firmly re-established Skynyrd’s status as the great Southern rock band. …it’s tighter than any record since Second Helping and as raw as Nuthin’ Fancy. If the original band was fated to leave after this record, at least they left with a record that serves as a testament to Skynyrd’s unique greatness.
