Description

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Kraftwerk 2 by Kraftwerk, including the original obi.

While this LP was released in Germany in 1970, it was not released in Japan until 1979.

About this copy: This copy of Kraftwerk 2 is an original 1979 Japanese pressing on the Philips label.  This cover lacks the large “2” that appears on most copies of this album to the right of the green traffic cone.

The cover is M-, with trace amounts of foxing.

The obi is VG++, with a small staine on the top edge where a piece of cellophane tape was removed.

This LP was issued without an insert.

The disc is M- and looks like it may have been played only once or twice. Beautiful disc!

A very nice copy of a rare Kraftwerk LP.

Background: Kraftwerk 2 was originally released in 1972 in Germany, but wasn’t released elsewhere in the world until the band had success with their 1974 album Autobahn.

While the group’s first three albums (Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk 2, and Ralf und Florian) are highly regarded by fans, the the group would rather forget them, and all three have been out of print for years and have never been available on compact disc.

Kraftwerk 2 peacked at #36 on the German LP charts and did not chart in any other country.

Allmusic.com gave Kraftwerk 2 a 4 star review:

Like its predecessor (similarly designed right down to the traffic cone cover, though green instead of red), Kraftwerk 2 has never been properly re-released, giving it the same lost-classic aura as the first album, or at least lost, period. …Kraftwerk here start exploring the possibilities of keyboards and electronic percussion in detail. Given that the band’s drummers were gone, such a shift was already in the wind, but it’s the enthusiastic grappling with drum machines and their possibilities that makes Kraftwerk 2 noteworthy. …Ultimately as with Kraftwerk 1, Kraftwerk 2 isn’t the “classic” sound of the band, but it’s astonishingly worthy on its own, well worth seeking out.
