Background:  Korla Pandit at the Pipe Organ was the third album by organist John Roland Redd, an African-American from St. Louis who refashioned himself as “Korla Pandit” of New Delhi, India, in order to work in segregated venues prevalent in the 1950s.

He kept this identity until his death, and even close friends did not realize he was a native-born American.

Pandit, along with Martin Denny, was one of the leading figures of the exotica movement of the 1950s.
