Offered for sale is a fully complete, still sealed original Japanese pressing of the 1977 triple album, The Originals by Kiss, including the original “cap” obi and all inserts.

We rarely have Japanese Kiss albums for sale, as most of them included multiple inserts that are usually missing and we try our best to only offer complete albums for sale.

The Originals not only came with multiple inserts, but also had a “cap” obi that had to be removed from the cover in order to remove the records for play, so the obi was often discarded by owners.  The album also had a cover that is unusually prone to wear.

This copy, on the other hand, is virtually perfect, as it’s been sitting  untouched and unopened since it was new in 1977.

About this copy: This copy of The Originals is a 1977 Japanese pressing on the Casablanca label.

As the album is still sealed, the records are presumably new and unplayed and the album should contain all inserts.

The wrap is fully intact except for a tiny break at the lower left-hand corner (see photo.)  Aside from that, the album is virtually perfect, and will likely be your final upgrade.

This LP should include a complete set of inserts:

  • 12 page booklet (in English) with the band’s back story and photos.
  • 8 page lyric insert with lyrics in English and in Japanese
  • Kiss Army sticker
  • Sheet of 6 trading-card style photos
  • 3 custom inner sleeves that recreate the original album art for the three respective albums.

A gorgeous copy of a classic Kiss set that is extremely difficult to find complete.

NOTE: This album will be shipped double-boxed and is eligible for free Priority Mail shipping in the U.S.

Background:  Released in 1977, The Originals was the first Kiss compilation, and the first example of a Kiss album that was marketed to collectors.

The album, sold as a limited edition item, was a repackaging of the band’s first three studio albums – Kiss, Dressed to Kill, and Hotter Than Hell.

The Originals was only released in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

The inner sleeves for the three LPs were designed to look like their original album covers.  The set also came with various inserts that included a photo booklet, a lyrics insert (for the Japanese release,) a Kiss sticker, and a sheet of Kiss cards. gave The Originals a 4 1/2 star review:

Just as Kissmania was getting underway in the mid-’70s, Casablanca issued the limited-edition, specially priced LP box set The Originals. It didn’t contain any unreleased or rare material, it’s just a repackaging of Kiss’ first three records (1974’s Kiss and Hotter Than Hell, and 1975’s Dressed to Kill), which made sense since many of Kiss’ fans just owned their hit Alive! and Destroyer albums. Also included was a 14-page booklet that recounted the band’s history up until that point, as well as six biography trading cards and a Kiss Army sticker (“Kiss Army” was the name of the band’s fan club). The Originals is a much-sought-after collectible among Kiss fans and collectors.

Despite the relatively high price, The Originals reached #36 on the U.S. album charts, probably helped by a TV campaign.
