A beautiful copy of a rare Kiss item that rarely turns up for sale.

Background: Picture disc LPs became popular about the time that the four original members of Kiss released their first solo albums, so their record company, Casablanca Records, released each of the four albums as limited edition picture discs in both the U.S. and Japan.

The U.S. edition featured the cover photo of the album on both sides of the picture disc.  The regular black vinyl U.S. editions of the albums included color posters that depicted the band member in cartoon form.

The Japanese picture discs had the cover photo on side one of the disc, but the side two photo was the cartoon image used on the American posters.

While the American picture discs were overpressed to the point that they eventually ended up in cutout bins, the Japanese editions were likely limited to a few hundred copies each and were hard to find even when new.

Allmusic.com gave Paul Stanley a 3 star review:

Paul Stanley’s 1978 solo album was the most Kiss-like of the four, sounding more like an official band release rather than a solo outing. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing — Stanley had become a seasoned hard rock songwriter by this point, churning out some of Kiss’ best material (“Love Gun,” “Detroit Rock City,” “I Want You,” etc.), and wisely stuck to his winning formula on Paul Stanley. … While his other Kiss bandmates took more chances with their solo records (with varying results), Stanley’s album is more or less what a new Kiss album released in 1978 would have sounded like.
