Description

Offered for sale is a still sealed sealed mono copy of Julie London’s debut LP, Julie Is Her Name.

While the shrink wrap has been removed from the cover, the record is still sealed in the original perforated plastic inner sleeve.

About this copy: The copy offered for sale is a 1960 mono pressing on the Liberty label of an album that was originally released in 1955.

As the record still sealed in the original plastic inner sleeve, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The cover is VG++, with slight general wear and a bit of discoloration on the bottom of the back cover where it looks like a piece of tape or sticker was removed.

A beautiful still sealed copy of a terrific LP.

Background: Julie London may best be remembered today for her roles on television in the 1970s, but from 1955 through 1969 she cut nearly 30 albums for Liberty Records, most with alluring cheesecake covers.

Don’t be fooled by the covers, though – these are great recordings, especially her early work recorded with jazz ensembles.  Her debut LP, Julie is Her Name, featured Barney Kessell on guitar as well as her biggest hit, Cry Me a River.

While this LP was first issued in 1955 on the green Liberty label, it wasn’t released in stereo until 1960 on the multicolor label used at the time.  The stereo pressings of this album are rechanneled stereo.

Allmusic.com gave Julie Is Her Name a 4 star review:

For a time, Julie London was as famous for her sexy album covers as for her singing. Her debut is her best, a set of fairly basic interpretations of standards in which she is accompanied tastefully by guitarist Barney Kessel and bassist Ray Leatherwood. “Cry Me a River” from this album, was her biggest hit, and her breathy versions of such numbers as “I Should Care,” “Say It Isn’t So,” “Easy Street,” and “Gone with the Wind” are quite haunting.
